5 ChatGPT Image Prompts That Deliver Great Text Effects

ChatGPT’s new image generator is going down a storm, and now it’s available to everyone for free. So, you might be on the lookout for ChatGPT image prompts that exploit the AI’s amazing new ability to reproduce text in images.

By far the biggest improvement with the new image generator is the way it handles text. Fuzzy, unreadable text is now (largely) a thing of the past. You can ask ChatGPT to generate even long passages of text and build them into graphics that are suitable for business or personal use.

Here are five different ChatGPT image prompts that deliver stunning text effects.

1. Social Media Promos

If you’re a business owner or social media manager, ChatGPT’s new ability to render accurate, attractive text on top of images could be a game changer when it comes to content creation. You can give ChatGPT the details of a promotion in a prompt, tell it what kind of image/text style you’re looking for, and let the AI do the hard work.

For the image above, I used the following prompt:

Generate a brightly colored promotional image, showing various pairs of sunglasses. In the forefront put bold, bubbly text saying “All sunglasses 20% off”. Make it square aspect ratio.

The ability to tell ChatGPT what aspect ratio you want the image to be generated in is very handy, as each social network has different requirements. Although you can’t do it with ChatGPT, you could always drop a business logo on top of an image such as the one above, too.

2. Vintage Typewriter Text

ChatGPT is adept at mimicking different styles of text. Let’s say, for example, you’re creating invites to a themed birthday party and you want the text of the invite to look like it was bashed out on a typewriter. ChatGPT can do that for you in seconds with a prompt such as:

Generate an image of the following text. Make it look as if it is typed with an old-fashioned typewriter on a sheet of paper:

Dear Jeff,

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to come to Bill’s 50th birthday party at the Grovesnor Lounge, 3rd Street, Littleton on the 5th August 2025…

Typewriters aren’t the only text style it can pull off. We’ve seen it generate text that looks like it’s printed from a dot-matrix printer, as well as stencils and other effects. Experiment with your prompts.

3. Custom T-Shirts

Here’s a fun one. You can upload an image of someone (make sure you have permission) to ChatGPT and ask it to put them in a T-shirt or cap with custom text printed on it. For example, I uploaded my own portrait image and the following prompt to get the image above:

Generate an image of this person wearing a T-shirt saying “My suit is at the cleaners”

The AI made me slightly meaner looking than I do in real life (honest!), but the overall effect is convincing. Almost photo-realistic!

4. Book Covers

If you’ve penned a self-published novel and need a convincing cover for the Amazon shelves, ChatGPT’s perfectly capable of doing that now too. You need only give it a title and author name and it will dream up the artwork itself, or you can provide more detailed art direction of the type of image you’re looking for. For the book cover above, the prompt was:

Generate a book cover. The book is called Murder At Dawn and the book is written by Barry Collins. The cover image should show a revolver on a lawn at daybreak.

The part of the image with the gun on the grass is perhaps a little dark, but you could tweak that with a new prompt or using the built-in image editor. A career as a crime novelist awaits…

5. Bespoke Birthday Cards

It’s not only book covers that ChatGPT can deliver, but greetings cards too. This could be for a birthday, Christmas, wedding or whatever occasion you like. And as we’ve seen above in the T-shirt example, you could even use a photo of the recipient in the image.

For the card above, the prompt was:

Generate a birthday card cover saying “Happy 65th Birthday Gran!”. Depict a cartoon picture of a white, grey-haired woman water-skiing.

Online card printing services could use an image such as the one above and print it on a card for you. The image should be high resolution enough for a small card, but if you needed higher resolution, I’ve written previously about how to upscale AI images for use at up to poster size.
