New Yoshikazu Yasuhiko Exhibition In Tokyo Is A Must-See

A brand exhibition has opened in Shibuya, Tokyo, featuring the work of renowned anime artist and manga creator, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, and it’s a must-see.

Yasuhiko is a very important figure in the world of anime and manga. For many, he is known as one of the main creative forces behind the original Mobile Suit Gundam, acting as both art director and character designer.

However, for everyone else, he is much more than that. From works such as Crusher Joe to Venus Wars and, my personal favorite, Giant Gorg. Yasuhiko has made a name for himself as someone who imbues a great deal of warmth and heart into the works he helps create.

A few years back, I got the chance to sit down and interview Yasuhiko, and he was a thoughtful and interesting individual, as well as being very humble.

So, any kind of exhibition covering Yasuhiko has its work cut out for it.

Set across the second and basement floors of the Shoto Museum of Art in Shibuya, Tokyo, this exhibition starts with Yasuhiko’s humble beginnings, to all of his newer and extensive manga work, as well as Gundam The Origin, both the manga and the anime.

There is a great deal of pre-production artwork shown for the first time as well, and I especially enjoyed looking at all the unused design sketches for Giant Gorg.

The great news is that there is a hefty 400-page-plus art book being sold at the event, which features most of the artwork shown at the exhibition. Coming in at 4,400 yen (or around $28 at the current exchange rate), it comes highly recommended.

So if you’re holidaying in Tokyo, then make your way over to the Shoto Art Museum in Shibuya and check out this new exhibition. Tickets cost 1,000 yen, and it will run until February 1.
