The same cannot be said for the Premiership’s Edinburgh clubs, who both showed serious ambition by smashing their transfer records this summer.

Brazilian midfielder Ageu joined Hearts from Santa Clara in Portugal, while Hibs brought in striker Thibault Klidje from Swiss side Luzern.

The pair are yet to make their marks, but both have shown exciting glimpses of what they are capable of.

Among 10 new Hearts recruits, Claudio Braga has been the shining star in a summer that saw the club really kick their Jamestown era into life.

Winger Alexandros Kyziridis has also shown promise, while defender Stuart Findlay has added experience to Derek McInnes’ backline.

Hibs surprised a few with the statement signings of midfield duo Josh Mulligan and Jamie McGrath from Dundee and Aberdeen, respectively, and Miguel Chaiwa has looked excellent in recent games.

Despite missing out on striker Lyndon Dykes on deadline day, Scotland team-mate Grant Hanley adds serious competition to a strong defence.

If a club has to be declared winners of the transfer window, it should probably be a shootout between the Edinburgh pair.
