For years, Mac users have faced something of a dilemma. They can either settle for displays that can’t keep up with the native Retina-quality graphics of Macs or pay a steep premium for one of Apple’s Studio Displays.

Now KTC wants to disrupt the premium display market for Mac users by launching its new H27P3 display. This 27-inch display has 5K IPS panel and is being pitched as the ultimate external display for Mac users who want Apple Studio Display-caliber performance for half the price.

With its sleek glass-back design, the new display is factory-calibrated for color accuracy. KTC claims it surpasses Apple’s benchmarks and the revolutionary dual-mode offers a choice of 5K resolution with a refresh rate of 60Hz or the user can switch down to 2K resolution while boosting the refresh rate to 120Hz, making the H27P3 suitable for creatives, developers and gamers.

Calibrated For Accurate Color

The H27P3 leverages an IPS panel and is factory calibrated to Delta E below 2 which exceeds industry standards for color-critical work like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. With a color gamut of 99% DCI-P3, 99% Adobe RGB and 100% sRGB, KTC boasts that its 5K display can present richer hues and deeper gradients than Apple’s reference displays.

Advanced DC dimming eliminates the rish of color drift, while a contrast ratio of 2000:1 and 500 cd/m² center luminance of white (peak) can reveal shadow details that many other IPS panels are unable to display. KTC is pitching the H27P3 as an ideal partner for Apple Mac computers like the Mac Studio. It also pairs with Apple laptops such as the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

Thanks to a USB-C input, the H27P3 can carry power, video and audio through one cable and also supports 65W reverse charging to power a MacBook Pro while supporting 5K video. Alongside the USB-C connectivity, the display also offers HDMI 2.0, DP 1.4 and two USB 3.0 ports and audio out to support multi-device workflows.

VESA Mount

These days, many people like to use more than one display and will use a monitor arm to get just the right height and viewing angle. To accommodate this, the KTC H27P3 has a VESA-compatible setup although its and the base of the screen rather than in the center where the glowing KTC logo is positioned.

Thanks to dual-mode resolution the H27P3 can be used at 5K resolution of 5,120 x 2,880 at 60Hz for Retina-level detail for design work and 4K video editing. Then, when it’s time to kick back and play a few games, it can switch over to 2K resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 and a refresh rate of 120Hz for super-smooth gameplay and multitasking. This is an unusual feature for a screen that’s designed for color-critical design tasks.

Other features worth pointing out on this new screen are its 10-bit color depth with 8-bit + FRC. This means the display can deliver 1.07 billion colors for smooth and artifact-free gradients. Certified for HDR400, the H27P3 offers an enhanced dynamic range to bring out fine details in shadows and highlights.

High Contrast Display

The IPS panel that KTC has used in the H27P3 has a high contrast ration of 2000:1 for deeper blacks and more vibrant images. The surface of the display has an anti-glare coating and like most IPS panels offers a viewing angle of 178 degrees, both vertically and horizontally with less than 2% brightness deviation. With flicker free and low blue light technologies, KTC is touting the H27P3 for reducing eye strain, especially during extended work sessions.

With its obsidian glass back, flush-mounted ports, and a five-way OSD joystick, the H27P3 has a slim aesthetic while still being functional to use. The aluminum stand doesn’t look out of place next to a Mac and the ultra-thin bezel gives it a stylish look.

The H27P3 has an IPS BOE ME270L7B-N23 display panel which is factory-calibrated for precision color accuracy (Delta E Below 2). KTC says that every H27P3 undergoes individual hardware calibration before shipping, achieving 100% sRGB, 99% DCI-P3/Adobe RGB coverage.
