The NYT Mini is a quick and dirty version of the newspaper’s larger and long-running crossword. Most days, there are between three and five clues in each direction on a five by five grid, but the puzzles are sometimes larger, especially on Saturdays.

Unlike its larger sibling, the NYT Mini crossword is free to play on the New York Times website or NYT Games app. However, you’ll need an NYT Games subscription to access previous puzzles in the archives.

The NYT Mini is a fun daily distraction that usually takes no time at all. I try to beat the standard weekday grid in less than a minute. But sometimes I can’t quite figure out one or two clues and need to reveal the answer.

To help you avoid doing that, here are the NYT Mini Crossword answers (spoilers lie ahead, of course):

NYT Mini Crossword Clues And Answers

ACROSS

1) The “Hawaiian” version of this food was invented in Canada – PIZZA (I really love it even though there are so many debates about pineapple on pizza. I am fully supportive of it)
6) Unintuitive phrase for a language learner – IDIOM
7) Tiny bit of change – PENNY (this one really got me, was the last word preventing me from finishing the puzzle)
8) Wise ones – SAGES
9) Drug that supposedly influenced the Beatles on “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” – LSD (not all that many major three letter drugs. PCP? Didn’t seem quite right)

DOWN

1) Black dots on dominoes – PIPS (Well I know why they picked this one, because it’s a new NYT game you can play right now, its first in a very long time)
2) “In an ___ world …” – IDEAL
3) Witty insults – ZINGS
4) Spaced (out) – ZONED (I kept trying to get ZONKED to fit but obviously that didn’t work)
5) Vegetarian foods brand – AMYS (I make my kid this mac and cheese brand but I didn’t realize the whole brand was vegetarian)
