Relatively new computing accessories brand CableTime has started shipping its new and affordable 15-in-1 docking station with an NVMe slot for high-speed external storage. Not everyone needs a sophisticated Thunderbolt dock and as USB 3 speeds can deliver up to 10Gbps data transfer speeds, it can make sense to save a few hundred dollars by rejecting Thunderbolt.

The new CB14S docking station from CableTime offers a selection of connections and a pass-through for up to 100W of PD so you can power the docking station with your laptop’s power supply. The docking station can also work without a power supply by relying on the USB power from a host laptop or desktop.

There are two HDMI ports in the CB14S with support for up to 8K resolution with a refresh rate of 30Hz. There is also a DisplayPort connector with 8K and 30Hz support via MST. As far as USB goes, the docking station has two USB-A 3.0, one USB-A 2.0 and a single USB-C 10Gbps on the front of the unit.

Other connections included with this docking station are memory card slots for SD and microSD storage, an Ethernet port with support for 2.5Gbps speeds, a 3.5mm combi audio jack and finally a USB-C PD slot for up to 100W power supplies. That seems like a comprehensive selection of ports for most laptop and even desktop users.

For anyone wishing to run extra monitors from a laptop, the CableTime CB14S offers the possibility to drive up to three external displays using MST. It’s important to note here that macOS doesn’t support MST so adding external monitors depends on the type of processor your Mac has.

For Windows users, the CB14S can drive three separate monitors via the two HDMI and one DP port. This arrangement supports a single 8K monitor at 30Hz or 4K and 120Hz. In addition, two monitors can be driven with resolutions of 4K at 60Hz, or even triple monitors up to 4K@60Hz and 4K@30Hz.

By taking the lid off the CableTIme CB14S, users can access a slot for an M.2 NVMe SSD. The slot supports M and B&M in NVMe and SATA formats, enabling up to 10Gbps of data transfer speeds. The slot is also compatible with other SSD sizes, including 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280.

This docking station is primarily aimed at laptop users and provides up to 100W of fast charging power. The docking station consumes up to 13W for its operations which leaves 87W for charging and powering a laptop.

As previously mentioned, the Ethernet port on this docking station supports speeds up to 2.5Gbps Ethernet speeds, making it suitable for high-bandwidth activities like streaming and gaming. The CD14S also has a front-mounted audio jack which is a combi 3.5mm mic and audio port. The port is suitable for driving a wide range of headphones or computer speakers.

Finally, the CableTime docking station also includes memory card slots with transfer speeds up to 104 Mbps. There are slots for SD, microSD/TF slots and although the transfer speed isn’t the highest, the performance will also vary depending on the speed of the memory card used.
