8.56pm: What a difference two days makes. England had to battle hard with the bat on Saturday night, creeping up to 153 in tricky conditions, but 48 hours later have cruised to 236. Phil Salt’s 89 got them off to a fast start, but he played second fiddle to Harry Brook throughout a partnership worth 129 in 69 balls for the third wicket. Some outrageous hitting from Brook in his 78 off 35, his first half-century as England’s T20 captain, and Banton’s late cameo ensured New Zealand will require their record run-chase in order to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The Black Caps were very shoddy with the ball and in the field, with Jimmy Neesham enduring a particularly tough evening. Join Alan in 10 to find out if things go any better with the bat…

Shayan: “Can’t they just shake hands already?”

Paul: “That’s some total and Phil Salt anchored the innings with the lowest strike rate of any batter other than Buttler.”

Phil Salt is speaking on TVNZ. “The wicket has had a chance to dry out. A bit more pace in it. The slower balls started to grip once the lights came on. [Brook?] Brilliant fun. It makes my job really easy. When he’s 20 off 10, it’s so easy for me to just give him the strike. [Bowling plan?] I’m not going to go up to anyone and say it’s an absolute belter! [Enough runs?] Bowl well and I think so.”

Duffy to Banton, 2 runs, low full toss, flicked away to deep square leg and Banton charges back for yet another two, the fourth in the final five balls of England’s innings. 237 to win!
