Amazfit Update Adds High-End Garmin-Style Features To Budget Watches

Amazfit has released an update to its budget Bip Fit 6 tracker, adding a couple of features more closely associated with watches like Garmin’s high-end Forerunner and Fenix models.

You may not need to spend a fortune to get an enthusiast-grade fitness watch anymore, with users reporting a new update for the Bip 6 that brings flat-out unlikely features, as reported by Notebookcheck.

The update, named version 3.3.12.4, adds “running form metrics” that offer insight into how efficient your running form is.

These include vertical oscillation and ground contact time. A more efficient runner will have minimal vertical oscillation and a shorter ground contact time.

While these metrics do not require advanced, additional hardware, they do go beyond the basics, and are generally of interest to at least reasonably serious runners.

The Amazfit Bip 6 costs just $79.99, though, a low-cost candidate for such enthusiast geared metrics. It was announced earlier this year at the very end of March.

Other changes made in the recent firmware upgrade are fairly minor, like a screenshot-capturing gesture, tweaks to mid-workout controls and new workout types — of which the Amazfit Bip 6 already had more than 140.

What can of course separate feature-packed budget watches from world-class high-end ones are the accuracy of its readings and how well it relays information in through its software platform.

It is demonstrative of how aggressive Amazfit is in its efforts to squeeze features and higher-end characteristics into budget models, though. It’s seen throughout the Amazfit Bip 6, which has a part-metal design, AMOLED screen, Bluetooth calling and even downloadable route maps.

The Bip 6 is not the only watch to get these updates either. Amazfit’s Active 2 series has received its own update, which also brings the neat running efficiency stats, as well as extra workout modes, including HIIT, ultra-marathon and HYROX.
