Amuro Ray’s Elusive Zeta Plus Gundam Gets The Diecast Toy Treatment

Amuro Ray’s Elusive Zeta Plus Gundam Gets The Diecast Toy Treatment

One of the more obscure mobile suit designs from Gundam Sentinel is the demonstration version of the Zeta Plus, and we now have a new toy on the way for it.

The story behind this Zeta Plus design is that the red-orange and white demonstration colors used by Karaba also had a variant that was rumored to be piloted by Amuro Ray.

It’s the latter that this upcoming Metal Robot Damashii toy pays tribute to, which is why it has Amuro’s mark emblazoned across its left shoulder.

We have had Gundam FIX toys of this variant, but the Metal Robot Damashii is several orders more advanced and sophisticated than those now very old toys.

The first obvious aspect is that, as the name implies, these toys use diecast in their construction. In this instance, the metal parts are used to beef up the strength in the joints, as the Zeta Plus is a transformable mobile suit.

We’ve also had prior variants of the Zeta Plus as part of the Metal Robot Damashii line, but this one is special because it has a much cooler color scheme compared to the traditional grey, and it could have been piloted by Amuro.

Personally, I am a huge fan of the Metal Robot Damashii line of toys from Bandai Spirits. For their compact size, I am always impressed by the level of detail and the finesse of the sculpt. For their price, they are arguably some of the best mecha toys you can buy.

In addition, this is another Ka Signature release, where Hajime Katoki personally supervises the toy’s development and design.

Considering that he was one of the main designers for the various Gundam Sentinel mecha, I am suitably elated that he is keeping a close eye on this one.

Pre-orders start for this Zeta Plus variant today in Japan via the Premium Bandai site. Priced at 19,800 yen (or around $135 at the current exchange rate), this will very likely come Westward at some point soon.
