Sales tax holidays are coming to nine states in the U.S. in the coming days and weeks. Offers and eligible dates vary by state but in some cases there are tax-free prices on products including the iPhone. Here’s all you need to know.

The full details of the sales tax holiday offers have been listed by Apple online, with the warning that “Your tax savings will appear on your final receipt, but may not appear at checkout,” Apple says.

The nine sales tax holiday states are as follows, and here are the dates for which they’re applicable: Alabama (July 18-20), Arkansas (Aug. 2-3), Massachusetts (Aug. 9-10), New Mexico (July 25-27), Ohio (Aug. 1-14), South Carolina (Aug. 1-3), Tennessee (July 25-27), Virginia (Aug. 1-3), and West Virginia (Aug. 1-4).

As you’ll see, some tax holidays are just two days long while one, Ohio, runs for a full two weeks. That’s not the only difference, with offers varying widely. Again, check the Apple link above for full details in each place.

In many states, eligible products are limited to products such as Macs and iPads and the total sales price must fall under a certain amount, such as $750. That’s doable for an iPad or a bunch of accessories which are likely to add up to less than $750, but harder for a Mac.

Some states, such as Arkansas have no sales price limit and some, like Massachusetts have a maximum sale price of $2,500. Arkansas eligible products include all Mac computers, all iPads, all iPhone models and even Apple Vision Pro.

In Ohio, only products under $500 qualify, while in Virginia, the sales tax exemption is only for cellphone chargers and batteries with a sales price of $60 or less.

Note that the sales tax holiday benefits can be augmented for students who can take advantage of Apple’s back-to-school promotions.

But the ability to buy without paying the local sales tax on top is an alluring possibility.
