The next big Apple launch is just a few weeks away as a new report claims that the iPhone 17 series will be announced on the same date as the iPhone 16. This aligns with previous speculations, leaks, and reports, which means, the iPhone 17 release date is… September 9.
According to the German site iPhone-Ticker, which got sight of internal documents from at least one local carrier, the iPhone 17 launch event will take place on September 9. “According to internal information from German mobile phone providers, this year’s launch will be on Tuesday, the 9th of September. This would put the next major Apple event exactly 35 days away,” says the report.
In the last eight years, Apple has announced a new iPhone on a Tuesday five times. It was only last year that a new iPhone was launched on a Monday. Returning to the expected launch day of the week, the iPhone 17 could launch on September 9, which is the same date as the iPhone 16’s launch.
What’s The iPhone 17 Sale Date?
Apple is said to open pre-orders for the iPhone 17 the following Friday, on September 12, and start shipping them a week later. So, the iPhone 17 series should go on sale starting September 19.

The upcoming Apple event could kickstart a new iPhone series. Its Plus model is expected to be phased out in favor of a slim device. As a result, we are likely to get the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max on September 9.
The iPhone 17 Air is tipped to measure around 5.5mm in thickness. According to a leak, the dummy unit measures 5.44mm. That would make it slightly thicker than Apple’s slimmest product, the M4 iPad Pro (5.1mm). To compare, the Tecno Spark Slim concept phone was showcased at MWC 2025 as the world’s thinnest phone at 5.75mm. Meanwhile, Samsung has also showcased the Galaxy S25 Edge, which is said to measure 5.84mm. So, the iPhone 17 Air could potentially become the world’s thinnest phone.
The iPhone 17 Air is said to fall between the 6.3-inch iPhone 16 Pro and the 6.9-inch iPhone 16 Pro Max in terms of size. It is said to have a 6.6-inch ProMotion-equipped OLED screen with ultra-slim bezels. The front camera will reportedly be upgraded to 24MP (up from 12MP in the iPhone 16 lineup), while the rear optics could be handled by a single camera.
While the iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to trim down its Dynamic Island size, the pill-shaped notch on iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will likely stay the same as the iPhone 16 series. According to Bloomberg, the iPhone 17 Air will be priced around $900, putting it in the same territory as the outgoing Plus model and maintaining its place in the lineup hierarchy. It’s expected to cost more than the iPhone 17 but less than the iPhone 17 Pro.
