While it was somewhat inevitable that we would get a Black Wing figure from Good Smile Company at some point, the fact that it is happening is still wondrous.

Black Wing was one of the allied mecha in the original Dancouga anime and piloted by Alan Igor. It was also destroyed in the anime, despite many thinking it would combine with Dancouga to allow it to fly.

It’s this “what if” scenario that birthed Final Dancouga in the Super Robot Wars games, by combining Black Wing with Dancouga to make an unstoppable super robot.

Over the years, Final Dancouga has been the zenith of what Dancouga could be, until Ultimate Dancouga was revealed in Super Robot Wars 30.

That said, there have also been numerous toys that have tackled Final Dancouga, with both Sentinel and Bandai Spirits doing their own versions.

This is a bit different, as this Black Wing combines with the utterly massive The Gattai Hagane Works Dancouga, also by Good Smile Company.

Priced at 30,000 yen (or around $202 at the current exchange rate), pre-orders start today with this Black Wing toy to be released in May next year.

In the meantime, you should definitely pick up Dancouga on Blu-ray, as it’s one of the best super robot anime out there.
