‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Update 2.3 Release Date Confusion, New Platform Announced

Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 fans are patiently, or sometimes impatiently waiting for the recently announced 2.3 update, the latest addition to the game long after CDPR said they would stop adding things to the game.
CDPR has announced that in just two days, Cyberpunk 2077 will launch for Mac. On top of that, there seems to be some debate over whether the 2.3 Update will launch at the same time.
This is a first for the game, and it’s certainly the case that many big games don’t often bother making the jump to Mac. In this case, all Mac hardware will be supported that can manage 16 GB or more of unified memory. That’s more than the 8 GB baseline for most units. Higher power machines will be able to run high-end PC features like path tracing, additions that make Cyberpunk 2077 arguably the best-looking game on the market when settings are maxed.
There is some confusion about this news in that some sites are reporting that the Mac release will come with the addition of the 2.3 update. The Verge and 9-to-5 Mac are reporting that 2.3 is coming on the 17th with this update, which will add “new cars” and “new photo mode features.” But CDPR has not said anything publicly about this on their socials, and those two additions are things that were added in 2.2, unless somehow more things of that nature are coming. I have reached out to multiple people at CDPR to figure out what’s going on, and I will report back if I hear anything.
A lot of comments on the announcement of this are in fact along the lines of “where’s the 2.3 Update?” which is not unexpected. I have seen some pretty absurd expectations about 2.3, that because of this delay, there must be something huge coming, like a bunch of missions or a big expansion. Very much no. CDPR has already said that this update will be on par with previous ones, which again, added things like new cars, a car color system, a transit system, new photo mode options and more character customization across the 2.1 and 2.2 update. It’s not impossible there could be new missions, small ones, but expectations should be kept in check, and it’s likely to be more QoL or cosmetic additions to the game again.
Cyberpunk 2077
CDPR seems determined to get Cyberpunk 2077 on every single platform it’s able to, most recently being the highest-profile third party launch on the Nintendo Switch 2, not an easy technical feat. We’ve come a long way from the game barely working on Xbox One and PS4, which eventually caused Sony to remove it from sale for months.
Last we heard, Cyberpunk 2077 had sold 30 million copies across all platforms. Launching on Mac, far from a gaming platform, is not likely to add all that much to that total, unlike the Switch 2, which probably will. As ever, I will always recommend what has somehow become my literal favorite game of all time, no matter which platform you want to play on.
