One of the most successful Dragon Quest games ever made is finally getting the remake treatment, and it looks genuinely amazing.

Dragon Quest VII was released back on the original PlayStation in 2000 in Japan, and it later came Westward the following year.

Apart from being an amazing role-playing game, Dragon Quest VII sold over 4 million copies in Japan alone. Making it one of the bestselling games of that period in Japan, even more so than Final Fantasy.

We later got an excellent port on the Nintendo 3DS, which was released in Japan in 2013 and later globally in 2016.

So, there’s a lot riding on remaking such a beloved game, but from the new trailer (shown below), it looks like they’ve nailed it.

There’s also a nice video (with English subtitles) of Yuji Horii and the game’s producer, Takeshi Ichikawa, talking about the remake and giving some extra context for the game’s release.

It’s also one of the few standalone games in the series, and not tied to any of the various trilogies that made up previous releases.

Talking of release dates, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will be released on February 5 next year, which is not far off at all.

My only hope with all this excellent Dragon Quest news is that we’ll eventually get another Dragon Quest Builders.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will be released on February 5 for Switch 2, Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
