The Dyson V16 Piston Animal is here, three years after the V15 Detect’s launch. Dyson’s flagship stick vacuum is more powerful and intelligent than before. Plus, it adds usability improvements like a redesigned bin and the ability to swap attachments without having to bend down. The company says it is “built for the highest cleaning performance across the whole home.”

The V16 Piston Animal features a Hyperdymium 900W high-speed motor to deliver 315AW of suction, which is more than the Gen5detect’s 262AW. Dyson flipped the motor 180 degrees to achieve this suction power and made it lighter in the process. The new Dyson vacuum weighs less than the Gen5detect and the same as the V15 Detect.

Like the Gen5detect and V15 Detect, the new V16 Piston Animal can automatically boost or lower suction depending on how much dirt it detects. It can also intelligently adjust the brushroll speed for more efficiency, depending on the floor it is on.

For instance, it’ll use a high flow rate and fast roller speed for carpets or lower the speed on hard floors because it’s not needed for efficient dust pickup. You can still switch between Eco, Auto, and Boost modes to adjust the suction power.

The Dyson V16 Piston Animal houses a dust compaction system called the ‘CleanCompaktor’ bin. You can now fit far more dirt in the bin than before, thanks to a redesign that also wipes down the inside of the casing to clean fine dust particles that get collected ovetime. It’ll save you time and energy, so you can clean for longer durations without needing to empty the trash repeatedly.

The V16 Piston Animal supports swappable attachments, now designed for easier usability. You can press down on the red cuff at the top of the wand and release the floorhead without needing to bend down. As for the floorhead itself, it is called the All Floor Cones Sense floorhead and features two cone-shaped rollers instead of a single brushroll. Dyson says it’ll help prevent hair from getting tangled around the rollers (similar to the existing Hair screw tool).

The Dyson V16 Piston Animal is priced at £750 in the U.K., while the Submarine variant will cost £900. The more expensive version bundles in a mopping floorhead.
