Emma Raducanu has been knocked out of the Eastbourne Open at the round of 16 stage after falling 6-4, 1-6, 6-7 (4-7) to Maya Joint in a gripping contest.

A topsy-turvy contest went to a third set tiebreak where 19-year old Joint came out on top, securing herself another WTA quarter final.

Raducanu started brightly taking the first set 6-4 before getting blown away by Joint’s backhand in particular in a dominant second set as the Australian international took the game to a third.

The British No.1 sat dejected in her chair during the third set changeover but more than played her part in a fascinating final set where Joint led 5-2 but was pegged back to a tiebreak where she eventually sealed the victory on only her second competitive match on grass.

“Today was really tough there were lots of up and downs and momentum switches. I’m really glad i was able to tough it out at the end,” Joint said on court.

“You guys [the crowd] made this match so fun to play the atmosphere was amazing,” she added.
