Euro 2025: Leah Williamson fit for Italy semifinal – Wiegman

GENEVA, Switzerland — England captain Leah Williamson is available for their Euro 2025 semifinal against Italy in Geneva on Tuesday.
Williamson was forced off injured against Sweden last Thursday after appearing to turn her ankle during the first half of extra time and was then replaced soon after the break by Niamh Charles.
There were fears that Williamson was a doubt for England’s semifinal with Italy, but head coach Sarina Wiegman has given her a clean bill of health.
“She really wants to play and she did everything to recover as quick as possible — and she trained today,” Wiegman said. “It means she is available tomorrow [for Italy].”
Georgia Stanway said the team are delighted to have Williamson available.
“Of course, she’s our captain and we’d like her on the pitch as much as possible,” Stanway said.
All 23 players trained on Monday in Zurich before the group travelled to Geneva ahead of Tuesday’s match. England head into the match as overwhelming favourites but Wiegman said the team can be under no illusions to the tough task Italy will pose having knocked out Norway in their quarterfinal.

“It would be really disrespectful to think we are the favourites,” Wiegman said. “They made the semifinal just like we did and that’s very impressive for any team. Complacency is the biggest mistake you could make.
“You have seen them how they have played. I don’t think there is anything we can think that we might be the favourite, but we have to be at our very best to win the game.”
