‘Gundam Extreme Versus 2 Infinite Boost’ Goes All Gunpla This November

In a new update, the arcade heavyweight Gundam Extreme Versus 2 Infinite Boost gets some gunpla themed mobile suits.

First off, the big update hits on November 4 and is a major balancing patch, changing the parameters across 14 mobile suits.

This is a big deal, as the Gundam Extreme Versus 2 scene in Japan is still very vibrant and active across the large number of arcades still open.

While this kind of arena mecha fighter was previously set up by the Virtual On games, the Gundam Versus games have since picked up the slack and are now the dominant series here.

That means regular balancing updates are key to avoiding players who exploit bugs and overpowered units to get ahead in matches.

However, in addition to this balancing update, we also have two variants of the original Gundam being given “gunpla” versions.

Namely, the regular RX-78-2 Gundam from the anime, and the RX-78-3 Gundam (shown above) from the novels. The latter is often just called the “G3 Gundam” or the “Grey Ghost”.

While there have been model kits made from specific game versions of the original Gundam, such as the Master Grade kit sold alongside the Namco-developed Gundam: One Year War game on the PlayStation 2, I think this may be the first actual gunpla design to feature in a game as it does in the real world.

Following that, on November 17, the Qubeley Papillon from Gundam Build Fighters will be added to the game.

While Gundam Extreme Versus 2 Infinite Boost is currently a Japan-only arcade release, you can still buy Gundam Extreme Versus Maxiboost ON on the PlayStation 4 for only $29.99, and that game still comes highly recommended. Especially as it also still works beautifully on the PlayStation 5.
