Fortnite servers have gone dark following the massive Death Star Sabotage live-event. The short, five-week Season 2 which featured all Star Wars content has come to an end, and the new Superman-themed Season 3 is about to begin.

Typically new seasons of Fortnite kick off in the middle of the night or early morning, but Season 3 is slated to launch this evening, and possibly as early as this afternoon if you’re on the West Coast. Server downtime is typically three or four hours, so with the game going down at roughly 2:30pm ET / 11:30am PT we could see Season 3 go live as early as mid-afternoon.

Update: According to the in-game timer at the end of the live-event, downtime will last 5.5 hours, meaning Season 3 will launch at 8pm ET / 5pm PT.

The new season brings James Gunn’s Superman to the Battle Pass. The new model is based on David Corenswet’s Man of Steel. The suit looks pretty good on this Fortnite version of the character. We also get Robin and Jonesy this season, along with other skins. Crossovers will be abundant, as per usual, with One Punch Man and Squid Game skins headed to the game.

Fortnite is now available on more devices than ever for Season 3, with the game returning to mobile devices and launching on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Players were able to load in early and play a Tie-Fighter vs X-Wing dogfighting game for a couple hours prior to the event going live which was pretty fun. I had no trouble getting into the event this time, which is a nice change of pace from many previous Fortnite events.
