ForbesToday’s NYT Strands Puzzle: Hints, Spangram And Answers For Thursday, July 3rd

Happy 4th of July, dearest Strandistas! It’s a holiday for many of us, so enjoy your time off, your friends and family, whatever you grill up and whatever you end up doing at your gathering of choice. It’s my last day on this Strands rotation as I head over to a week of Mini Crossword guides. Let’s solve this grid, shall we?

Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day’s theme.

Spoilers ahead.

Today’s Strands Hints

Read on for today’s theme and some hints to help you uncover today’s words. Instead of giving you the first two letters of each word, today I’m giving out three hints instead of two.

Today’s Theme: Let’s have a picnic!

Hint: This is very much 4th of July themed.

Clue: Just think about what you’re planning to eat today.

What Are Today’s Strands Answers?

Today’s spangram is: BARBECUE

Here’s the full list of words:

  • BURGERS
  • COLESLAW
  • BRATS
  • SALAD
  • WATERMELON
  • BEANS

Here’s the completed Strands grid:

Today’s Strands Breakdown

As predicted, this was 4th of July themed and centered around — what else? — a BARBECUE. I found BURGERS pretty much instantly and then BRATS (aka bratwurst). Rounding out the left side of the grid was COLESLAW, which made the spangram pretty easy to find. I found both BEANS and SALAD before ending things with WATERMELON. Oddly enough, watermelon is something that upsets my stomach, so out of all these foods it’s the one thing I definitely won’t eat at my 4th of July BBQ.
