Until Dawn — the hit horror movie based on the blockbuster PlayStation Studios video game — is coming soon to Netflix.
Directed by Gary F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation), Until Dawn opened in theaters on April 25 and debuted on digital streaming via premium video on demand on May 23.
The official summary for Until Dawn reads, “One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover (Ella Rubin) and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one … only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening.
“Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the night again and again — only each time the killer threat is different, each more terrifying than the last. Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.”
Until Dawn also stars Michael Cimino, Odessa A’zion, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, Maia Mitchell and Peter Stormare.
According to Netflix, Until Dawn will begin streaming on the platform on Thursday, July 24. For viewers who don’t subscribe to Netflix, the platform offers an ad-based package for $7.99 per month for viewing on two supported devices, while an ad-free package is available for $17.99 per month for two supported devices.
In addition, Netflix has an ad-free package for $24.99 per month for four supported devices with 4K Ultra HD programming.
Co-Screenwriter Explains Why ‘Until Dawn’ Is Not A Direct Adaptation Of The Video Game
When it came to adapting Until Dawn into a feature film, Gary Dauberman — who co-wrote the film’s screenplay with Blair Butler — explained to Game Rant in an April interview why it was necessary to expand the story of the game.
“The challenges were coming up with the very different scares and what new horror is going to unfold this night,” Dauberman told Game Rant. “But I would say also because it’s not a straight adaptation of the game, but it is expanding the story of the world of the game.
“I think that was challenging because we wanted to look at where can we take the story of the game and where can we push it forward and introduce some new characters and see what happens to them over the course of the night,” Dauberman added. “It was challenging but it was also a lot of fun.”
Until Dawn earned $20.1 million from North American theaters and $30 million internationally for a worldwide box office gross of $50.1 million against a $15 million budget before prints and advertising, according to The Numbers.
The film also received a 53% “rotten” rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 110 reviews, but audiences gave the film a 67% “fresh” score based on 1,000-plus verified user ratings.
Rated R, Until Dawn begins streaming on Netflix on July 24.
