Apple’s iOS 26.2 is coming soon, along with a bunch of cool new features for your iPhone. In addition to new features, the iOS 26.2 update will likely include security patches and bug fixes. Here’s what to expect from the latest iPhone update when it arrives.

iOS 26.2 Update Features

Like most iPhone point upgrades, iOS 26.2 will come with new iPhone features. One of the best for security is a new setting that Apple is calling Enhanced Safety Alerts. Available in your Settings > Notifications, Apple will allow iPhone users in supported regions to toggle on switches for earthquake alerts and imminent threat alerts, according to 9to5Mac.

Apple will also add a privacy option that shares “your approximate location with Apple to improve the timeliness and reliability of Enhanced Safety Alerts.”

The new iOS 26.2 Enhanced Safety Alerts setting option adds to the current Government Alerts section, which currently offers AMBER Alerts, Public Safety Alerts and Test Alerts in addition to an Emergency Alerts section.

Other new features in iOS 26.2 include options for the controversial Liquid Glass feature, offline lyric support in Apple Music, sleep score revisions, alarms for reminders, Podcast enhancements, Apple New revamp and AirPods Live Translation in the EU, according to Apple focused site Macrumors.

The iOS 26.2 Update Will Include Security Fixes

From iOS 26.1, Apple is offering a new feature called Background Security Improvements, which offers updates on the fly. However, it’s likely Apple will also issue security patches alongside the 26.2 update, for those who prefer to add security fixes manually.

When Apple first released iOS 26.1, it took a few days for iOS 18.7.2 to appear. At the time I thought this could mean Apple is no longer giving iPhone users the choice between iOS 26 and iOS 18 — but I was wrong.

Even so, Apple is unlikely to update iOS 18 for much longer, so if your iPhone can run it, it’s worth considering the upgrade to iOS 26.2

The iOS 26.2 Update Will Squash Bugs

In addition to security fixes and features, iOS 26.2 will likely squash bugs in the new iPhone operating system. Some people aren’t happy with iOS 26 so far, with a post on Reddit detailing complaints of issues with apps and lag since upgrading to iOS 26 and iOS 26.1. Hopefully, Apple will clear up at least some of these with iOS 26.2.

iOS 26.2 Update’s Release Date

Apple’s iOS 26.2 update is coming soon, in Dec., according to the iPhone maker — and although it hasn’t confirmed exactly when, it will probably arrive around the middle of the month.
