Man United 2-2 Everton (3 Aug, 2025) Game Analysis

ATLANTA — Manchester United ended their summer tour of the U.S. with a 2-2 draw against Everton at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
David Moyes’ side twice came from behind to deny United three wins out of three in the Premier League’s summer series after victories over West Ham United in New Jersey and Bournemouth in Chicago.
Bruno Fernandes, with a penalty, and Mason Mount got the goals for United. Everton’s first equaliser came from Iliman Ndiaye before a late and fortuitous Ayden Heaven own goal earned a draw.
Despite the result, Ruben Amorim can be encouraged by his team’s form in America. He has one more friendly against Fiorentina at Old Trafford to prepare his players before the Premier League season kicks off against Arsenal on Aug. 17.
Against Everton, the United head coach handed a debut to Bryan Mbeumo — who played the first 45 minutes — in a front three which also included fellow new signing Matheus Cunha.
Everton have endured a frustrating tour and arrived in Atlanta having lost their first two summer series games against Bournemouth and West Ham.
David Moyes has said he needs “nine or 10” new players before the transfer window closes. The ones he does have started well against United and Everton should have been ahead inside 10 minutes.
Altay Bayindir — starting again in place of the injured André Onana — made a mess of James Garner’s free kick and Jake O’Brien somehow hit the post when it looked easier to score.
It wasn’t a great moment for Bayindir as he looks to prove he should start against Arsenal at Old Trafford in two weeks’ time.
Everton had the ball in the net when Beto rounded Bayindir, but was flagged offside. And when the deadlock was finally broken in the 18th minute, it was United who found the net.
James Tarkowski was adjudged to have pulled back Amad in the area and Fernandes tucked away the penalty.
It looked soft and Tarkowski was furious with referee Thomas Bramall, but Fernandes didn’t care as he scored for the spot for the second time on tour.
United defended well in their first two tour games. Everton, though, had more joy going forward and equalised five minutes before half-time.
Manuel Ugarte was caught on the ball on the edge of the box and Idrissa Gueye whipped in a wonderful cross for Ndiaye to score at the far post.
In a game of few clear chances, Mount thought he had won it with a smart finish which curled past Jordan Pickford and inside the far post and a clever interchange with Fernandes.
But Everton equalised for a second time in calamitous circumstnace when Amad’s attempted clearance rebounded off Heaven and crept into the corner.
