NYT ‘Strands’ Hints And Answers — Friday, October 17

It’s Friday and we have another NYT Strands puzzle to solve. If you’re looking for a little extra help uncovering words, I’m here to help. As always, we have a grid of letters to parse through and this one is a little trickier than this puzzle has been, so let’s dive right in!

How To Play Strands

Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day’s theme.

Spoilers ahead.

Today’s Strands Breakdown

I noticed the spelling in today’s theme right away, and it’s a very clever play on words to be sure. This clued me in that we’d probably be dealing with “walking” words and sure enough, I found SCUTTLE right away. From here, however, I found the rest at a slower pace. TRAIPSE came next and then CAPER, as I knocked out the corners. GALUMPH was simple enough with CAPER out of the way, and this made the spangram—SILLYWALKS—pretty obvious since I had most of the grid filled out. It still took me awhile to find CAVORT and PRANCE but eventually I got there.
