Ozzy Osbourne, the lead singer of the rock band Black Sabbath, died Tuesday at the age of 76.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” his family said in a statement posted on X. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

Osbourne, who publicly shared his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease in 2020, played a farewell show just a few weeks ago.

Osbourne has been credited with helping “invent” heavy metal with Black Sabbath, which released its self-titled debut album in 1970. He later went on to star in the hit MTV reality show, “The Osbournes,” which first aired in 2002 and focused on his life with his wife and two of their children (Osbourne and his wife have another child, Aimee, who opted out of participating in the show).
