The popular British children’s show “Peppa Pig” announced on Tuesday that its main character, Peppa Pig, will soon be joined on the show by a new baby sister.

Evie Pig’s birth was announced on the British TV show “Good Morning Britain,” with mocked-up pictures showing the Pig family at the Lindo Wing maternity ward at St Mary’s Hospital in London.

The exclusive maternity wing of the London hospital is where Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, gave birth to her three children.

As with British monarchs, Evie Pig got the royal treatment on Tuesday. A video by the official “Peppa Pig” Instagram account showed a town crier ringing a gold bell and royal-inspired pink scroll outside the hospital, announcing the piglet’s birth.

“Lend me your ears, for news of the birth of a daughter to Mummy and Daddy Pig,” the town crier declared. “Peppa and George have a baby sister and her name is Evie.”

“Long live Evie Pig!” he added.

In February, the British animated series made global headlines when it announced that Peppa’s mother, Mummy Pig, was pregnant with her third child, marking the first major character shakeup in the cartoon’s 20-year run. The sex of the new baby was announced in April.

The cartoon’s production company, Hasbro, said in a press release that Evie Pig will make her first on-screen appearance on “Peppa Meets the Baby Cinema Experience,” which will begin showings in U.S. movie theaters on May 30.

Amid a plethora of higher-quality children’s animation shows, the colorful cartoon has become a global phenomenon in recent years.

The show received both backlash and praise in 2022 when it introduced its first same-sex couple — two lesbian polar bears — on the series.

Some parents have even noticed their kids speaking in an English accent as a result of watching the show.
