Bad Effect Of "na Naija We Dey" Mentality On Our Country Nigeria

"Na Naija We Dey" will be the first thing almost any Nigerian would reply you when you try to tell them the action they took was wrong and worse still we seem fine with this bad omen, infact we are so comfortable doing the wrong thing such that it has become the right and legal way of doing it and should anyone do otherwise you will be confronted with "Na Naija We Dey".

I had a friend who told me that his father, a civil worker once said to him "O boy you see government money no be anybody money, so incase you sabi anyhow wey you go take chop no go dull yourself oo" and this is the very person i once overheard in a serious argument and almost about to kill himself that Nigeria will oneday change and become better meanwhile he took after his father's words judging from the stories he also told me.

Now lets not despise that boy and forget the fact that is the behavior of an average Nigerian, while we the masses blame the government the government is also laying blames on us, a close look would tell you that we are the ones playing the game and its on us, we are our problem, the "Na Naija We Dey" mentality need to stop or better still change the context of that statement.

It saddens me to know that even "First school leaving certificate" a child of less that 12 years old is required to have is no escape of exam malpractice, now tell me will such child not take exam malpractice as an easier way of passing exams? Probably they are the ones who would go the extra mile to cheat in the University exams and also cheat in any other area of their life. Not until everyone see the disaster in things like such will this nation chang for good.

Sometimes we lay blame on the things we can't control and leave the things we actually mess up ourselves, you can agree with me that if you move whole Nigerian citizens to USA and bring the Americans down to Nigerian and then give a duration of 50 to 100 years i am sure you can guess the result if you are sincere with yourself, well i will say it myself Nigerians will still mess up their new place. Why you may wonder? Because the problem is not the environment but the people who make the environment.

Nigeria can be better, we Nigerians can make Naija a better version of Nigeria but first we must acknowledge the wrongs we call right and put them away, this won't be easy but we can still do it if we choose right and it begins with you, i mean you reading this and not him or her, set a pace for others to follow.

Much to say but i will stop here for now and lets you say other "Na Naija We Dey" mentality that need to stop.

God Bless.

  • This writer is a good observer, the truth is that, we are our own problem ,we are crying for change, we are rooting for a better Nigeria ,but we the citizens cannot abate the habit of collecting bribe and the rest of them, go to parastatals in Nigeria and  see how people collect bribe and offer job due to favoritism, the earlier we change, the better for Nigeria

  • Positive change is only effected when one is given the chance and right atmospheric conditions to make it happen. The very statement is as a result of frustration an average Nigerian has been successfully exposed to either by being denied an opportunity and point blank or stylishly. So, in the absence of equity, one decides to lower his moral standard and turn blind eyes on some thing which in a real sense of it is bad. But the regret fails to stick to one's conscience because of far grievous offences the influential are committing in the open and go unchallenged and unpunished. Though it's wrong to have mindset, but to rid the poor of such mindset is near to impossible if the gap between the rich and the poor, rulers and the ruled and influential and the nonentity would not reduce.

  • This is truly the current mentality of Nightmares citizens. But my idea on this is that, both the government and the people, needs to change their point of views on things they do in the country. The Government should try to see to the needs of the people, while the people need to follow simple rules and regulation of the country.

We need to change this our bad mindset all because we feel Nigeria is corrupt already and no one can do anything about it...

We are our problem. The best time to plant a mango tree was 25years ago and the best time to plant it is now.

  • This is something that has been going on for a very long time and it has to stop. It starts from the youth where if you can't be them you join them. The mentality the elders give our youth affects them so it makes things very difficult. And we can't progress if we continue like that.

  • The "Na Naija we dey mentality" has really affected the country in many major ways, seeing as individuals engage demeaning in acts and blame the Nigerian government which is extremely wrong.

We need to write off such mentality to curb some of these acts in the country.

  • Nigeria the giant of Africa they say is county flowing with milk and Honey

With the rate at which people squander funds meant for the betterment of this country, most people now find it "unwise" not joining them to eat out of the national cake.

If every one behaves like this, then who's supposed to help in eradicating corruption!?

  • This mentality should be addressed in our individual minds because it is having a bad effect on us and our children.

If we cannot successfully deal with it, in no time even our unborn children and generations will adopt it.

  • I've always said that both the Government and most individual's in Nigeria are the Problem of Nigeria, there are ways in which all of us can make this country grow but once given the chance we all think of our pockets first before thinking of the right thing to do

  • The government began the game called 'Na Naija we dey' and the citizens are following suit that's why they are called followers because they follow what the leaders do. It's not on the followers, even though they are on the suffering and vulnerable end of this game. It's on the government to stop playing games which the citizens are playing along to because they have to survive. Until this game 'Na Naija we dey' is stopped by the government, the followers will keep doing what they know how to do best... following. Thank you.

  • You will not only put the blame on the people. The spirit of "na naija we dey" mentality is there due to the instability of government in these past years. They will promise the masses heaven and earth but when they finally gets into the sit, they will not fulfill anyone. Instead they will engage into looting public funds. God help naija.

  • Yes that statement is a bad statement because will never ear the statement on till some one has did bad thing or commenced a sin and wen you want to correct him/her you will haer the statement say '' na naija we dey'' which is very very bad. And if we continue like that naija will never be better.

  • In my own perspective I will be sincere that this slogan of "Na Naija we Dey" is very crucial and need to be cancelled from our mentality. Nigeria is more advanced than this act. This will bring down our dignity to other countries

  • The truth is just that this mentality 'na Naija we dey' can't be erased only by the citizens but also by the government. We have always believed Nigeria won't be better than this which is not so. We should try and peep into other countries development. Things they do to make their countries better. And I believe by doing this, we would see more good in our country than just saying ' na naija we dey'.

  • This is the most insightful post I have ever come across on Nnu. Sincerely, that slogan is already becoming a societal plague. The truth is this; "na we dey do ourselves ". And we seriously need a renewal of our minds and social orientation. Hon. Akin alabi recently made a post of how he bought and sent a transformer to a community in his constituency and how the youths said they had to settle them before they can drop the transformer. Can you imagine how bad things have become in the society. And a contributing factor to this is Illiteracy.

I really don't accept the fact that every little happening , it will co noted with "na nija we day" ..... Its really not helping in some cases but iis just become a part of us.

  • In as much as majority of us Nigerians struggle to survive we shouldn't fail to address this issue, i mean how long can we continue to survive? It will seem the most difficult but together in our individual mind we must first conquer this bad mentality turning our dear nation into something else

  • This mentality is what is killing us on a gradual basis. We simply use this as a platform to perform many atrocities. Based on the fact that "Na naija we dey", our behaviours get worse daily. We dispose dirts on our roads, go late to appointments (African time), owe money and refuse to pay among a host of others.

It'll be best of us to change our mentality, if not, we won't make any reasonable change

This actual Mis conception is what is turning our dear country to the to the rocks and it is tearing up the country.....Nigerians could make the country better only if they will accept their mistakes and make right decisions....

  • This has been on for as long as I can remember and is still ongoing; it’s really a pandemic. People now careless about the corrupt nature of the country and just want to be in a position where they can “chop their own and go home”, everyone is trying to make ends meet by any means, even through wrong means. We can change honestly but it’d take the grace of God because this is an issue that’s being on for so long it’s already a part of us. We even do some wrong things without knowing they’re wrong, that’s how badly it’s eaten into us.
