How I Lost 50 Thousand Naira To Sars

I was on my way to Akure, when I encounter this Sars. These people told me to enter their vehicle without them checking my phones. I disagreed with them which I was landed a slap. The thing hit me. I later entered their vehicle, they checked my phones and saw all the transactions on my PayPal account and all was in the dollar. This made them to think, they have got an opportunity.

They drove me to one city that I don't even know the name. To cut the story short, I lost 50k to these people all in the name of seeing transactions on my PayPal account. Money that I got from blogging.

Now should citizens stop going out with their phones all in the name of fearing Sars?

  • I feel sorry about what has happened. That's how the country is now. But, that doesn't mean one should stop going out with phones.

    Just make sure;

    • You always dress responsibly!
    • You always clear your app cache before going out.
    • Always be polite with SARS officers.

With these, I think you'll be safe.

  • Sarz are now using people for Business and the government is blind about it. Even if you are not into any illegal stuff, they will still collect something from You. I think the government should do something about this.

  • Firstly i would say the country is jeopardised to the extent that unlawful acts in the name of security is no longer new, so my advice would be for you to make sure you wipe any foreign transactions on your device after deal done, in order to be on a safer side or you would be tagged as a fraudster when seen with such details.

those men are not taking it easy on the people so we have to be careful on our own side..Thanks!!

  • Dress code and your (look-code)can make you suspicious in the sight of SARS, my advise is when engaging in any journey, look responsible in your dressing and make sure you have nothing implicating on your phone or probably if any, keep it at home and avoid yourself unnecessary questioning from sars

  • It is now a familiar story everywhere. I wonder how their children feel when they hear how police make side money. I think police should join NNU, it's better than stealing with the police authority. In my area people don't fear thief but police. We need to delete banking transaction because of them. They musteyno see foreign contact even if it belongs to your relatives abroad. God help Nigerians.

  • This has been happen and will still continue to be happen has far Nigeria is concerned, we citizens doesn't know our right and if at all we know it, Did we implement it?

Mostly of the problem/harassment we faced are cause by thw government who give those people power to do anything anyhow.

Also we citizens need to be careful as far we knows what our country holds, starting from dressing, behavior the way we move, talk and interact.

    May God save us

This is nonscence honestly we can't walk freely in the society anymore. We all live in fear all because of people that are meant to be protecting us. So sad.

the extortion is too much as it is already affecting the innocent ones who knows nothing about fraudulent activities

the government should put a stop to these illegal activities by sars

  • Nigerians have been molested by these so called SARS. They don't even know what their duty is. SARS are supposed to be seen where thieves are operating and not harassing innocent individuals. I think it's high time we reported them to our government and complain about their nuisance. Maybe sanctions against them (the SARS ) would make them restrain from their way of behaving. Going out with ones phone is never a wrong thing to do,but be careful of the contents you have in your phone.

  • there is literally 'anti-robbery' in the full form of the word SARS,  yet they torment youths because of their irrational skepticism. they are cultists and thieves disguised in uniforms that gain joy from oppression. don't worry, karma exists and surely their turn to taste the rotten cake would come. just be blissful they didn't take your life like they normally do to innocent people.

  • The issue of the SARS is getting complicated because they are now using the opportunity to do business now they are now taking people that are not even involved in any kind of illegal business government has to run them and give them enough training so that they can stop harassing people even even among them we have those that are thieves that I even doing all illegal things but still they will still be taking the people that are not part of what they are taking people for that is my point.

  • Eyaahhhhh. You see, this really happens mostly everywhere. The so called sars use any opportunity they see to collect money from people when they see their appearance, and the phones with them. Just few people get over it. What to do to avoid their harassment is just to Delete any sign that can make them hold you when they check your phone and also be careful of where u go to and people you move with.

  • SARS has been accused many times for uncountable crimes. One also happened to my friend, police collected 6k from him because they said he is yahoo guy. My suggestion is that we must know our right, i.e what the law says and while traveling or going out, we must dress properly.

  • The case of SARS need to be thoroughly addressed.. There have been different news of them harassing innocent citizens and extorting them of their money all in the name of them being involved in cyber crimes... Am sorry for what happened to you, I think the deed has been done and there is nothing you can do to get your money back, even if u want to get back at them you might end up putting yourself in trouble and that would be really bad... So next time just tread gently and avoid the sight of them

  • We are in this country already. A country whereby the leader care less about what the citizens go through. As per the SARS encounter, those ones are heartless. I'd advise you get a smaller phone while going out, so in that case, you can be dropping the main phone at home.

Those saying dress code, even if you are well dressed they will still harrass anyone they wanna.

The SARS seems to be taken it to the extreme lately just like the scenario you just shared. There exist lot of online businesses done that doesn't involve scamming or relatives but whenever this people see dollar payment transaction on people's phone they just feel a route of making money is already opened to them. This issue should be taken more seriously by the government please. Thanks.
