Motorist Extorted By Police Officers For The Usage Of Google Map

A twitter user had taken to his page an incident that had happened between him and some police officials on his way to work. He narrated that he was on his way to work that fateful day when he was caught up in traffic and then wanted to reach out for his calculator and Identity card which was needed at his work place, until some policemen came to the front of his car and entered his vehicle. When they had entered they started questioning him on what he was doing while driving, he told them he wanted to get the items needed for him before his arrival at his work place.

The policemen told him to go the back seat of his car and then one of them took the steering and started driving. While he was driving, the owner of the car told them he was already running late to work, then one of them asked for his phone and saw that he was using the google map, but he explained to them that he was using the map to know the fastest route to get to his office as there was traffic that morning.

The police officer with his phone thn said it was an offense to use the google map while driving and then they started requesting for money from the man and said they would take him to the station if he does not give them the sum of N120,000. After much begging by the man to the police officers they told him to pay N45,000, which he had to do.

Why are these policemen resorting to things like this, are they not been paid enough money to carry out their duties?

  • These policemen don't know how to do their jobs or duties. They want money, their salary is not enough for them

  • Most of Nigeria's Policemen are not joining to serve the country. Most of them joined the Police Force because of the fraudulent ways of gaining money. I'm not surprised.

  • These policemen are just looking for money. I wouldn't have given them a dime. The problem is we Nigerian keep quiet, sit back and relax while all this happens. Talking and going on Twitter will not solve the problem, "action speaks louder than words" and this is one of the reasons I like Americans, they wouldn't stand for this.
