I was asmitted to the university of ilorin 2018/2019 session. I resumed late but i joined the moving train and i was happy because i got a very good course, physiotherapy.
As time passed by, we did our orientation, and we were informed of our requirements to cross into 200level. Unfortunately after the 100level things changed for bad.
We were informed of a new requirement while we were all enjoying the holidays and preparing for 200level. This new requirement for crossing only applied to medicine students, it's not even in our handbook and we were not informed, so we said.
They told us that it's final and i didn't meet up to this requirement i couldn't believe that my happiness was stolen from me just like that. I started having different thoughts of if i had known.
The course was a new course that the university just acquired and it was the first set. Now i am asked to choose between microbiology and biochemistry and i am just confused.
For a fact if not that my father is a medical doctor and he even wants me ti study medicine plus i don't like maths i am a very creative person and would prefer being in the engineering department.
Any advice please? i was even considering rewriting jamb and picking physiotherapy or another good course while taking biochem or MCB.
No matter what our parents say concerning our choice of course lets all endeavor to go for what's best for us. Only you know what you have passion for and what you will be happy doing. You have said it all. Choose out of the two course and re enroll for jamb.
more than anything is having passion for a course it gives you driving force, and also even if you dont have passion, you can build passion and motivation for certain things. It's a two sided coin, it might be what God wants for you to do microbiology or biochemistry. Sometimes what we want is not what's best for us. There are people that put in for a course in the University but end up given another course, they accept this course and then grow to live the course and even found out that the course has better opportunity for them. And the other side is that you might end up doing this microbiology and be regretting that you wanted physiotherapy and not this and end up doing badly. So my dear with prayer to God let him lead you and whatever outcome accept it and be happy and pursue it, build interest.
Parents should allow their children to make their own choices cause its their life and not theirs. I suggest you should do what you really want cause passion is the goal so wherever lies your passion is the best place for you. Eventually your dad would understand even though he may not like it at first.
Making career choices requires critical thinking and looking inwards to find what you are passionate about. Wrong career choices can ruin a lifetime because it's difficult to go back to the drawing board and choose another career path.
If your parent will support, pursue your dream. Take another jamb form and pursue your heart desire. But as related to medicine, MCB or Biochemistry is still inline
Not to waste time and age, I will advice you go for MCB and later continue cross to medicine when furthering your education. Admission these days is not easy o.
I can only advice you to follow your heart and do what you know best that you can do. Don't do any course because of your situation or because of what your parents said. Do it because its what you want to do.
A popular adage says a bird at hand is better than two birds in the bush. This means that even if you are going to take another jamb, collect the new course you are given and keep at it. If the new jamb now work out, good, if not then you can be sure that you still have a course on ground.
We often hear of students being in school already studying and after a while they decide they’re no longer interested in their course and would like to change it and transfer. These are things that’d be avoided if there’s proper planning as to your career choice. I’m doing this, let no one decide for you what you should do, the least you can let them do is give you advice but not with coercion because it’d only be bad for you in the end.
This story so similar to mine, I feel like I've made the worst mistake of my life by not following the dream I always had inside me for a long time. I studied international relations in school but this was due to my fathers pressure of studying that. I've always wanted to study theatre arts in school.
Follow your heart dearie, sometimes too many advises on things like this gets you even more confused and at the end of the day, you wont find a solution, if your course is still what you got in mind go for it, if not you can pick any of the options given and try aquiring skills or focusing on a creative art skill since u are creative
It's not a must we study what our parents wants us to study. If you feel the course you're doing right now isn't right for you, talk to your parents and retake jamb and go for the course that you want. But if you feel you can cope with it, then keep on studying it
