British Curriculum In Nigerian Schools
Ever since colonialists ruled over Nigeria in the pre-independent era,we have learnt and taken cues from their ways of life. They imbibed in us knowledge and brought civilization to Nigeria. Our dress sense, food choice, government and even our educational system are aspects of our lives that were affected by the change they brought to us.
Nigeria however is a country described as the giant of Africa due to her vast size. A very rich country for its mineral resources especially black gold(crude oil) and her agriculturally fertile land. Nigeria is a country wonderfully created by God. Nigeria has over five hundred tribes which are very rich in culture.
Our schools should be a source of acquiring knowledge,of learning and knowing the tenets of our cultures and traditions. In our schools, we should take in every piece of our norms and facts around us. Why then should we adopt British curriculum in our Nigerian schools? Can it solve the current problems in Nigeria? Will it in any way help us to understand the situation of Nigeria? Will it help in building a nationalistic spirit in citizens of our beloved Nigeria?
What's your take on the adoption of British curriculum in Nigeria's education system???
