Does The Course You Study In The University Define What The Future Has For You?
Most times, you see people rushing into the university to study professional courses like medicine, engineering, law etc. Some even get admission to study other courses, but they end up rejecting the admission with the mindset of "They want to study something that will help them in future". Although, the pressure from the society and parents is a factor of such notion, it even gets to a point of making them believe there is no success outside studying these courses.
Funny enough, these people have less or no passion for these courses, but they go ahead to study it because of the "name".
Donot forget the topic of discussion, what's your take on this?

I don't think so because some people who study religion study at the tertiary level end up to be a banker

We have seen people who studied Mass communication becoming a banker and someone who studied political science becoming an engineer. So, ones descipline at the university does not really say what future has for that person.

It doesn’t, have seen people who read accounting but is running restaurant, so is not what you read in school that most people do.

No, a person's course of study doesnt determine what he or she will become later in life. There are people who studied professional courses but you see them running their business solely.
- Peter Martins - 2019-08-16 12:13:25 Quote
Its really determined what you are going to be in future but Nigeria at hand now is not helping

Well me I don't believe in that because it's a dream and I decide to do it but we are not superior than our creator (God) who knew everything. Point two is that our society nowadays is not about what you study but what is your qualifications
- Olaleye Hammed - 2019-08-16 12:46:04 Quote
It will if that's the only thing we limit ourselves to
If you branch out and learn other things, then your future won't be decided solely on that course

The course you study in the university cannot determine your future. What ever you will become in the future is as a result of your mindset and believes. Its not everybody who read law that is practicing it today. Stay focus and work more on the area of your strength rather than the area of your weakness.

I totally disagree with that motion that said the cause you study defines you feature, why because I have seen an engineer working in the bank as a banker, so please for those pushing there children to study a particular cause please and please its wrong, it only God that know every body's feature not the cause they study

Let's just put our head into it, to me, if we do diligently, even if we don't get job we might get a livelihood from it.. I mean ideas from what you study.

Not at all. We see many professionals in the banking sectors and likewise other sectors. Some people's future are not tied to their course of study in the school

Capital NO because someone who study Yoruba as a course not suppose working as a banker while someone one study business course won't be working as a site supervisor on engineering firm, infact most people are studying some course all because his/her friend is studying it but being educated aids in future

It depends, we can't generalize it. Studying law does not mean you will become a lawyer. The best example I can give is that of barrister Mike the comedian who graduated from law in OAU. He his known for his comedy skill rather than the law he studied

Going to the university shouldn't be just abt ur desire course only but the experience you gain from various challenges one face and of course tapping into that network of people, ideas, ambition e.t.c should not be overlooked

In more civilized climes, the course one studies in the university always indicate what one becomes eventually as they are trained to practice what they were trained for in their readily available companies and enterprises. However, this nlis not true about the Nigeria state where it is easy to find a medical doctor as a cab driver, a lawyer as banker, a teacher as receptionist and so on.

I think it's a no and yes situation :
For those that study engineering, medicine and other professional courses, I believe it's a yes for them.
But other courses, one can deviate from the course of study to shape ones future which will be totally different from the slcourse of study.

The course of study in the university may define what the future holds only if when choosing the course you put into consideration your ambition that is, your purpose, the reason for your existence. Then your future will align with the course of study.
- Ogunbiyi Dara - 2019-08-17 13:48:01 Quote
Before choosing a course to learn in higher institution, one must try to make research about the course in the following ways
1. Check if the course has a high rate of existence in the labour market
2. Try to know the cost to be incurred
3. Check your foundation in secondary school if you can actually fit in to that department
4. Visit educational consultants to shed more light on that course
5. Check the admission requirements of the course and recall your o level results and jamb score if they are sufficient enough for you to get admission for that course.
6. Don't do a course because your friend is also pursuing it. We have different potentials and intellectual capacity.

What we study in university does not in any way define what our future would be.... Most time students who are business oriented find theirselves studying courses that is not raleted to business in any way... And this students after studying those courses after graduation still go back to business because that's what defines their future the more...
So I don't believe that's what we study in university defines our future .

If we come to think of it ,what you study in University of you know we're you are going to it will determine how your future is going to be , Because you can seen a person that study law in school an end up been a farmer is not possible , I send the course you study in school server as youy foundation

Not always so. Especially for this days that about 90% of undergraduate now engage in one business or the other . This also we know fimd out that most graduate now venture into such business when they are out of school. A course of study does never determine the future of one , Fate does.
- Akindele Victor - 2019-08-17 23:36:33 Quote
Of course not, the course you're studying can't determine your future and I'm not saying this for saying sake but from experiences( different experiences) and this hasn't give some courage or encourage them that it doesn't. We need to try to do what we love most it may be a trade or any vocational education. Even when we finish from university we will be okay to feed ourselves.. so Job hunting will not just be your job by then

To me no is the perfect answer
Cause academic is just a dream and not someones future. Cause in most institutions people are being offered courses outside the course of their choice. And the simple truth is that not all that studied that particular course will end up practicing it.
- Ekwueme Ebenezer - 2019-08-19 06:07:25 Quote
Nobody knows what the future hold, A lawyer might end up being a sole proprietor and vice versa, we shouldn't use what we read in the university as a yardstick for what we will do in the future but rather as a guide
- Mujidat Lateef - 2019-08-19 11:52:34 Quote
This is a two way thing. It does and it doesn't. It does because some people during and after their course of study may not find any other things that interest them and even if they find, it may not be as lucrative as what they actually studied while it does determine it because some people set their mind to attend higher institutions just to be called a graduate but indeed their interest lies somewhere else
- Adeseolu Kazeem - 2019-08-19 13:01:20 Quote
It mostly doesn't because in today's world, we see people from different fields working in other fields apart from thier field of study.
The teachers or lecturers focuses on imparting the knowledge according to their curriculum, not minding if psychological, a student is fit or interested in their teachings. We end up learning for learning sake and either do what we have flare or love for which most times is completely different from what we studied

NO, it doesn,t determine your future ...Judging from the situation of Nigeria now People enter other ventures like business or hair making or other form of hand work to earn a living because so many are underemployed or unemployed. So course of study can never determine your future, they say change is due and thats a fact one should always have a back up if one doesn't work, the other one will
