Yesterday which was September 10,2019.The Management of the Federal University of Oye Ekiti shut down the School indefinitely and sent out a broadcast message to all of the students to go home after protests turned violent later that day when the students took to a calm and peaceful protest because of the power outage on and off camous.
The protests turned Violent as at 6:30pm yesterday evening, two students were shot dead and a lot of them are still fighting for their lives after the police fired at the student because the road was blocked by the SUG president who demanded the release of the students that were arrested by the police from the second campus (Ikole campus) which was around the same time the convoy of BisiFayemi, the first lady of Ekiti state was passing as well.
May the dead people rest in peace and let us wish the injured ones quick recovery
I still don't get it. Why should our Police Force who claim to be our friend start shooting at peaceful protesters when all developed countries' police force use rubber bullets on peaceful protesters just to disperse and disharm them
This should be looked into and a drastic lasting solution should be taken
This is Nigeria, where there is freedom of speech but chaos after speech. Its only a bad government that act in insecures ways such as this. The dead were not killed by assassins or armed robbers, or cultists or any terrorist group but by the Nigeria Police Force, a body that is supposed to maintain law and order but are the ones piloting chaos and disorder. May the souls of these great Nigerian students who have departed into the world beyond Rest In Peace.

I think we youth of nowadays must use our brains more than our heart as being overtly emotional would only cause irreversible damage. There's no sin in demonstrating peacefully, but not in a country that only subscribe to the principles of democracy and not ready to implement it's tenets. The fact is at the end, we are the one to bear the brunt. Aside the great loss of lives, there will be unnecessary elongation of the duration of our programmes, legalised extortion in the form of reparation or damage fee if school properties were destroyed during the protest and many more. This is the time to cut out unnecessary youth exuberance and be rational in our judgment of situation.
Nigeria is a country where we have rights as a citizen but the right is not granted by our Government
In Nigeria there is Freedom of speech but Freedom after speech is not assure
I think power supremacy is the problem Nigeria is facing cos I keep imagining why the state first lady support the Police fire shot that's really heartless
After everything now, the grasses would end up suffering.. The students were sent home for what, there is obviously something fishy, now when the students resume back they start running around for fees and exam some might not even return at worst...
Had it been the government and school authorities provided the necessary amienties needed by the students there wouldn't be any protestation. The authorities always have to do the needful
I knew this would be the next line of action from the school management, however, they should do everything possible to prevent clashes between students and security officers within the area and also bring to justice the police officers involved in the death of students.
The police are another set of criminals we have in this country on what ground should they shoot with life bullet
It such a pity those who are to protect us are now killing us
What really happened yesterday was rubbish. The policemen shouldn't have shot anyone yesterday. At least it was a peaceful protest. Also, they should have given them the space to exercise their freedom of speech afterall it was set to be a peaceful protest but all turned upside down when the police officers started shooting to the extent of killing someone. Presently, the school is on strike hereby causing delays in the students academics. I think the government should seriously put this case into consideration.
A unharmless protest should be peaceful, if a protest turns into being violent, then is not longer a protest, protest is disagreeing with the authority but in a peaceful and mature way, Nigeria of nowadays don't tolerate it
Almost everything in Nigeria abuses you, police, army, customs, road safety. Where else do they want us to go, how can students be protesting and then the police start shooting at them. It's barbaric to the ear. Pray Government finds something to do about this issue.
The students being asked to go home as a result of their protest which turned violent should only be temporary so as not to extend their stay in the university. And police officers shooting at unarmed protesters is a very wrong act the police force should come out and apologize for their action
May the soul of the two student who died yesterday rest in peace and a very best of of luck to the injured ones too.
An action have to be taken place by the government concerning incident that happened.
Shutting down the institution for now is the best thing to do at the moment because the students won't be at peace and their lives are precious to their parent at home too.
Believe it or not this is pure jungle justice metted on the people and citizens of this country by those who are supposed to be the custodian of discipline, fairness and justice. It same case has severally repeated not twice but in many occasions. In my own view, we have a duo opposing parties in Nigeria. The government of the day and the people they claim to govern. Democracy in our own sphere is so far away to be enjoyed by the people.
I pray that they settle the issue as soon as possible before your inability to resume early enough add an extra year to the final year students that are meant to graduate is going to be a very serious matter
Sorry to say, our Goverment are not trying at all, Student make protest because there is no light for them to read, it is a write decision but they creat it in different ways which turns violent. I highy advice the govermnet of nigeria to look well through this before give their capital punishment.
its siad that the students fought for their right, but they shouldnt have turned it to volence cos we do not have government in nigeria, we only have rulers, the volence protest now cant bring out a good result from the govt and the students will be penalize for their actions
The fact is at the end, we are the one to bear the brunt. Aside the great loss of lives, there will be unnecessary elongation of the duration of our programmes, legalised extortion in the form of reparation or damage fee if school properties were destroyed during the protest and many more.
I don't know why the government make things difficult for our students, just cos theirs are in foreign countries to study. Government pls create good amenities for Nigerian students I beg.
It is very painful to a Nigerian but I don't know why God sent to this country I mean all I see is evil everywhere what is wrong with us I mean police killing civilians is this even something we should be seeing or happening.
Nigeria is really turning into something else. There is no business of the police in a peaceful protest. If truly the protest was a peaceful one, then the police are in big fault here. The Government should sort this case as soon as possible because the education of student are at stake here.
The school has been through a lot, and am not surprise by the illicit actions displayed by the student, it's high time the school begin to look into the plight of this institution and carry out appropriate steps. Because it will be a shame and slap to the goverment is this continues in theis country Nigeria.
Nigeria really needs washing... washing away bad people from all sectors, imagine policemen that are supposed to be our friends becoming our enemies and killing us infact.
May the soul of the poor students rest in peace and their parents will find solace in the lord.
This country is in a complete mess, how can the police open fire on students protesting, why not use teargas or something else but no you choose to kill someone's child, someone's only hope. The worse of it all was that the government did not take any reasonable actions.
