How I Make My Homemade Popcorn

Popcorn as we all know is a snack we can make on our own and its very simple to prepare.

Groundnut oil or butter

First of all, heat your your oil or your butter slowly, then you add your corn, sugar, and a little salt if u want. Then u start turning or stirring, continue stirring till u start hearing pop sounds. Then u stop and wait for the corn to pop well. Cover your pot tightly so that the corn will not pop out. Once u stop hearing pop sounds, py off the heat and bring out the corn. Allow it t cool a little then you add milk to eat to iimprove the taste.

Then your popcorn is ready.

What do you people say about this snack. Do you have other way you make yours, kindly share with us.

  • At the thought of popcorn, my mouth waters I want to always eat it especially when it's garnished with lots of milk. It smells nice when you pass through an area where it's being made. My thanks to PSO is unfinished because of approval of posts like this.

  • How i made my popcorn at home first of all Place your oil in the pan (I use about 2 tablespoons of oil for half a cup of unpopped kernels). Turn the heat up to high, and add 2 kernels of popcorn. Cover the pot and wait for those 2 kernels to pop. Once they pop, remove the pot from the heat, remove the 2 popped kernels, and add the remaining unpopped kernels.

  • Thanks for sharing this. You just made me remember my first time of making popcorn... It was black cause I was scared to open the pot because of the pop sound. And I already bragged to my friends that I was an expert.. Lol

  • When I was in the village, we used to make popcorn too. We pour the already peeled corn inside a pot, add salt, and little water. Then stir it together and place it on top of the fire. Continue to stir it while on top of the fire and some of the corn will be porping up. When the color starts to change as if it is getting burned, we drop it down. Our popcorn is ready to be eaten with palm kernel.

  • Popcorns taste better when they are made with butter rather than just oil. The sweet smell is even enough for you to want to buy. I haven’t made popcorn myself before but I’ll try it someday

  • The recipe is cool though. I love popcorn and it's one of my most addictive snack. Lol. How can I ever unlove popcorn? Especially when the sugar content is not too much because that's what most sellers do.. Fill the popcorn with less milk and too much sugar. I love mine when it's very milky though.

  • My dear can I use honey in making my own pop corn and is there any way I can also apply eggs on it, as my friend told me he does his, that way, and he tells me that is the remedy for making pop corn sweet and marketable, by putting honey and eggs, although he sells the one he puts honey and eggs more exensive than the rest

1 Heat the oil: Heat the oil in a 3-quart thick-bottomed saucepan on medium high heat. If you are using coconut oil, allow all of the solid oil to melt.

2 Put 3 or 4 popcorn kernels into the oil. Wait for the popcorn kernels to pop.

3 When the kernels pop, add the rest of the 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels in an even layer.

4 Cover the pot, remove from heat and count 30 seconds. (Count out loud! It's fun to do with kids.)

This method first heats the oil to the right temperature, then waiting 30 seconds brings all of the other kernels to a near-popping temperature so that when they are put back on the heat, they all pop at about the same time.

5 Return the pan to the heat. The popcorn should begin popping soon, and all at once. Once the popping starts in earnest, gently shake the pan by moving it back and forth over the burner.

Tip: As the popcorn pops, try to keep the lid slightly ajar to let the steam from the popcorn release (the popcorn will be drier and crisper).

6 Once the popping slows to several seconds between pops, remove the pan from the heat, remove the lid, and dump the popcorn immediately into a wide bowl.

With this technique, nearly all of the kernels pop, and nothing burns.

7 Melt butter in the empty hot pan: If you are adding butter, you can easily melt it by placing the butter in the now empty, but hot pan.

Tip: if you let the butter get just a little bit brown, it will add an even more intense, buttery flavor to the butter and to your popcorn.

Just drizzle the melted butter over the popcorn and toss to distribute.

8 Sprinkle the popcorn with salt to taste.

  • This is quite nice but not technically or fully explained because the pot should have a special make in which you can be able to stir while the pot is closed, using other normal pots may spoil your popcorn. There is a specific type of pot with a constructed covering meant for popcorn.

  • That's a nice and easy way of making popcorn. But my question lies on what do you make it in?? I'm aware that when making popcorn, your corn should be stirred so as to even the distribution of the heat. If you just leave it there and cover it, it will surely burn. So what did you make your popcorn in? A pot with a stirrer inside or a frying pan?

Having done that, he will now apply sugar to it at last and turn it together. But I notice that, the sugar use to burn at bottom of the pot.
