How Nigeria's Educational System Has Killed So Many Talents

By - - [ Education Opinion ]

In a state of isolated or closed system everyone has installed it on their minds that there is no good living without going to school,  let me rephrase that word going on in Nigeria which is "school na scam" this is a statement that is very viral in Nigeria as a whole due to the corrupt system of Nigeria killing the talents of young people telling them things like "failing same exam twice means you are a failure", this word is a life and talent killer.

Failing an exam has nothing to do with failure. There are footballer that needs no degree, there's a musician that didn't study art in school, so why killing our young Nigerian's.  In schools, students should be encouraged and be given enough room to exhibit their talents, such things tend to lure or change a person's mind about school.

So the question there is this, does your academic standard define you?????

It’s so sadden to see our educational aspect lacks some quality ‘hundreds of school facilities out there with no good resources to take some students particular subjects, we only focus on theoretical aspects and ignore the practical “ a student might be good in producing some stuff e.g electronics and some certain stuff and might not be good in books if there are some project set aside for those particular students to explore their talent there would be some certain thing we wouldn’t import anymore.

God bless you for bringing in this post,  school has indeed ruined alot of talents and skill. Everybody wants to have a certificate. Well it's not our fault it's the fault of the economic system where they look down on you if you don't have a certificate. It's very bad

My academic standard dose not defind me at all because if we take a good and deep look at our educational stranded it nothing to write home about,  alot of irrelevant things that's been taught in school making  it even compulsory is the most annoying part of the whole matter,  by so doing wasting the student time and killing the intellectual they have inbuilt

Only those that wants their talents to be killed by the educational system will sure give room for such.

Talents are to be nurtured and built on and not let to wallow or slip away from our hand.

Surely,  it is written,  the talent of a man will make way for him and make him sit among kings and queens..

Keep the spirit of that talents alive and also merge it with your schooling or the educational system and when the right opportunity comes,  you will be surely amaze at what talents can make you achieve

We all know  there's just one answer to this and that is NO it dosent. Schooling is an aspect of life and its a means to an end and not an end in itself. So if you are not opportuned to go to school please dont pout just look for what give you joy, and go all out for it

I think the author of this write-up is referring only to state/public schools as private schools/universities in this country are of relatively high standard and encourage their students to be the best they can be. Education is definitely not a scam as it is the best means of developing one's potential to the fullest. If this is what is going on in the public schools where a greater number of Nigerian youths pass through, then there is cause for alarm. The education ministry, on both state and federal level, needs to wake up to its duty as there can be no progress for a nation that doesn't take the education of its citizenry seriously.

Academic standard matters but it does not define some one, in everything and every profession one want to choose or venture into in life, try and be educated.

There are ways education will pave for you which if you are not educated , you will be isolated. but the school system should stop tagging failure in exam as mark of failure in once life

To me half of the problem lies with the parents. when you walk into a school the school is ignorant of your natural talent till you start displaying them. Now the parents through the years have seen their children with different talents yet they still force them to study what they have no natural interest in. And for students who depend on their parents for fees what can they do?

The school only gives back what the parents have presented

First, let me say this school isn't a scam. The purpose of school is to impart knowledge. What you do with the knowledge is entirely up to you. School won't teach you how to nakm money, it will only teach you what you need to make money- the necessary skills. It's up to you to decide how you are going to use that to make money.

That said, the problem with Nigerian educational system is that it's not practically oriented. And that's why Nigeria isn't progressing. That's why we have a lot of unemployed graduate who can't set up themselves because they have little practical knowledge of what they study. All they know are the theoretical aspects they wrote their exams is about. Theory is good because it's the basis. But in real life, practical is the main deal.

Nigeria's educational standard does not define who a person is because the curiculum does not help students to bring out the in-built talent but to kill those hidden treasure that could have taken this country to a category of countries like Germany, Russia, England and so on.

To some extent the main reason behind our mass failures in school is due the fact that, the courses that we want to study are not the one we were used to be given! You will be given a course that you don't know, you don't like in fact have no knowledge about,  how will one concentrate.?

To me this is deadliest killer of our talented youth in Nigeria.

How Nigeria's Educational system has killed so many talents .

The nature of Nigeria's education doesn't consider on intelligent but rather on certificates. That's why many studied to get a good grade and deliver when giving the opportunity . The talented ones are left behind since they couldn't earn a good certificates.

School doesn't define who we are or what we get to be in the future.just imagine someone who went to school for about six years, comes out and also do NYSC and still earns hundred thousand naira per month while someone who just stayed home and has good talents such as making people laugh decides to make good comedy videos and upload it and he earns more money than someone who went to school for six good years.

Academic standards I must say doesn't define you  in the sense that you might see some one who is so brilliant but mannerless, no good moral and can't do any other good job perfectly well and on another hand you will see someone who is not really brilliant but every other thing about him is very much OK. Plz I must say no one is a failure and no one is to be referred to as failure when he failed an exam,  each and everyone of us have his/her peculiar  grace and talent plz let's take note and stop killing talent with our mouth and action.

Definitely not! Your academic standard does not define you. Unfortunately, it's not seen so in Nigeria today. Cos there are people who are not very educated and are doing well for themselves at least. Just like there are some people who were brilliant in school but can't apply it in the real world, they can't put it to good use. School is very important because it defines a lot of things about a person. But then, school is not all that defines a person.

I'm in support with you. I can remember when I was in primary school, my class teacher was just someone who recently concluded secondary school, still waiting for school cert. Tell me,what kind of knowledge could he impact in the pupils. He lacks qualification and experience. This is what we see in the Nigerian educational system. Just watch what's happening in the jamb exams. One person wrote exam for more than 40 students. With all these, you still want to convince me that our educational system is Ok. No,it's totally bad.

This is exactly what most schools do. When you fail the same exams for more than once, you will be demoted to the lower class and they will treat you as if someone who was born as a failure, instead of repeating the same class you failed. And this is not just a talent killer, it is one of the leading causes of suicidal ideation in Nigeria.

The Nigerian society lays too much emphasis on academic excellence, there dismissing any other talent as irrelevant. I mean if a child is excelling in his or her academics, they get full  support from their family and if they should take up other talents, they get shunned. This is really discouraging and it has continued to kill lots of talents. I implore you fellow Nigerians to support people with talents.

I can't say it's the fault of the students because what we are being taught in school is how to pass exams not how to be relevant members of the society, we're not taught the relavant economic skills needed to succeed in life. We have seen a lot of people making it without going to school.
