Is The Judiciary Really The Last Hope Of The Common Man?

Ever since the last general election which was marred with violence and malpractice, the opposition party which was believed to have won the election by all indications has been contesting the result at the tribunal. Just yesterday the five man tribunal seating in Abuja upheld the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari, while many Nigerians think Alhaji Atiku Abubakar won the election, the law court ruled otherwise to the contrary of public opinion.

From all that happened at the final seating yesterday one cannot but ask if the judicial system in Nigeria is still to be trusted?, is the court truly the last hope of the common man?. What do you think?.

  • The judiciary is not the last hope for the common man. The judiciary is brain child of the men in power. Sowore was set free by the judiciary but the Government of the day is ridiculously making a mockery of the judiciary in the face of the whole world.                              God save us from this shame. So the judiciary can no longer pass judgement and their verdict obeyed? I really wonder . God help Nigerians.

I pray everything returns to normal so we can have the rightful judiciary in Nigeria

  • Well judiciary suppose to be the last hope for common man but it is not so in Nigeria because the judges and lawyers have been manipulated by the politicians.

So if they give fare judgement about a case,  the presidency will be after them.  It is a shame

  • Judiciary in theory is the last hope of the common man but that is not the case in practice especially in a country like Nigeria where the common man's rights are not respected. Nigeria is a country where court orders are neglected, and the common man has been relegated to having hope in God.

  • The judiciary is suppose to be Service to Humanity. But what do we have today? Corruption has taken over. Judges going home with thousands of dollars. Judges administering judgement under duress. Where does the common man come in here? There is no hope.

  • I think judiciary should be the last hope of a common man buh nowadays it is not. Many people are in the prison for the crime they didn't commit because they are not the sons and daughters of an influencial individual. So because of the corrupt government the system has changed.  I think that the judiciary I'd no longer the last hope of common man

  • Judiciary should be the last hope of a common man. But it is not mostly applied in our country. There are many people  in the prison serving  undeserved punishment . Some even get sentenced  just for being rude to an influential man in the society  without  the judiciary intervening into the matter. Judiciary being the last hope for a common man is not praticed in our country because  it is already a corrupted system.

  • First of all, I would start by saying that the judicial system in Nigeria is not 100% reliable. Regarding this issue of the election, I think the judicial system was penetrated by the ruling part my to deliver the judgement in their favour. The judicial decision on the matter was not free and fair (unbiased) which only makes one to wonder if the judicial system that is supposed to be the last hope of a citizen to get a fair judgement on a matter can be bribed to deliver a false judgement, what hope does the common man have?

I personally think this is the reason for jungle justice in Nigeria. Due to the lack of trust the citizens have in the judicial system

  • The last hope of the common man in Nigeria is God. Little or no faith should be put Nigeria's legal system. It's meant for the highest bidder. The poor can get justice in this country but I hope and believe things will get better some day

  • That is no more ttrue because most of the lawrs and judges are corrupted and their corruption attitudes has suffers the poor masses and rich are oppressing the poor masses because of the lost hope in judiciary.

  • For me I believe the judiciary has fail in it's quest in making the sector the last hope of the common man, if we consider the judgement of the PEPT, the ruling was a clear indication that it has fail, if we look critically at some evidence brought by the persecutor many of which where rules off especially the DNA, CERTIFICATE where the trial judges gave more credence to an NDA certificate or testimonial more value than WAEC, forgery and false testimony, not to forget a witness who testified against the defense and all these where overlooked it ruled off, leaves much to be desired about our judicial system, infact it is a case of the highest bidder takes all, pathetic to say the least

  • Hello, i think every sector that make up our country has failed, corruption is deeply rooted into them even the judiciary system and i believe there are some ready to work tirelessly to make sure corruption is removed but there is a lot of work to be done, they alone cannot accomplish this mighty task.

  • The judiciary is supposed to be the last hope of the common man but that is limited to the constitutional disposition of a country. In Nigeria,it is obvious that the judiciary is not independent and their decisions could be influence by incumbent government.

Every other things being equal, the judiciary should be the last resort of a common man in any country.

  • In this country it is noted that regards and respect is not accorded to the court, court orders are not even respected. We are in a country where the court passes judgment and gives instruction but the executives pay deaf ears. Now it's no more hidden that the court is filled with corrupt people, people who the hardship in this country has made them choose money over justice, the court does not favor the common man, if the case must be in your favor then you have to be rich, influential, you have to be uncommon!

I don't think is the same over here in Nigeria.

  • To be honest, judiciary should be last hope for justice. But the results we are getting speaks the other way because some of this people have been pressurized and tempted away their integrity through some immoral acts. So they won't tell the truth. Besides, they are humans like the rest of us. They could be simply tempted away through some bribing.

  • It is annoying that the judiciary that is supposed to be the last hope of a common man have been jeopardized, it is now being controlled by the government in power when the are supposed to be the one the government should be afraid of, take for instance what is happening in America now, they Congress want to remove President Donald Trump from office and they are following due process which at the end he is found guilty, he will surely step down but that cannot happen in this our country where the president is ruling with an affidavit and he used it to win. That means no more need of suffering yourself going to school since you can sue an affidavit. Sometimes I weep for my country.

  • Right now the judiciary is no longer the last hope of the common man,the corruption in the system is just too much and it is the highest bidder that the judgement favours

  • I think the judicial system is messed up in this country. The independence of the judiciary is this country has been manipulated by the executive. I don't think the judiciary structure is been fair in interpreting the law and constitution because the executive has been controlling the members that constituted as a result of their appointment by the executive. So the manipulation by the executive on the judiciary makes it not to be the last hope for man in Nigeria. Man has to sought for other maeans by accepting fate.

Under democracy the only thing that is done without cheating is corruption .

  • Nigeria..

The judiciary used to be the hope of the common man but in this dispensation that we are in right now it's disheartening to say that it isn't anymore. The judiciary works at the mercy of it's initiates and puts aside the fate of the common man who naturally constitutes the law.

  • The judiciary under this present administration cannot be the last hope for nigerians, we cannot have access to the judiciary because the elite uses the system to get away with countless atrocities that are ridiculous and unimaginable. We need to act now before it is the end of our enemies.

  • Yes the Judiciary is the hope of the common man but not to bring justice to favor the common man but rather that after the court had ruled against the common man he has no other legitimate place to seek redress. In a nutshell it is a tool for fighting the less influencial or privileged. This is my humble submission.

  • The  court is like a holy sanctuary to the common man where he believes he can seek his freedom from the oppression of the highly influential and mighty in the society as the judiciary is traditionally believed to possess the traits of justice, equity and fair play. In time past, there was quick dispensation of   justice and majority of judgments were decided on merits placed before them and indeed those times where times when one could say with pride without fear or favour that the judiciary was indeed the last hope of the common man.

  • Truth be told, the judiciary cannot be said to be the last hope . They used to be, but not anymore. Ever since the removal of onnoghen from being the chief justice, the judicial arm has been destabilize to being the weakest Arm.

As it stands right now, the executive is getting a upper hand

  • On normal basis the judiciary should be the last hope of the common man, but right now the judiciary in NIGERIA is known to be a scam. We now have corrupt officials in the judiciary who twist the right judgement just to favour their pockets and their family at the expense of those who come to them with hope of getting justice. I would say GOD is the last hope of the common man or to everyone who belives in him

  • The judiciary shouldn't be the last hope for a common man, especially in Nigeria where bribing and corruption has become the order of the day, the rulers bribe the judges to get whatever they want..

  • In Nigeria of today the judiciary is not the last hope of the common man. It is an apparatus of the ruling class which the class uses for its own selfish interests a aspirations. Evidence abound here and there in this country to authenticate this my assertion. The common man in Nigeria doesn't even have the financial resources to prosecute his case. So how does it become the last hope for the common man when he can't even afford to be there? So it's not the last hope for him.

  • The judiciary in Nigeria is not divorced from the system in which they operate. Corruption has taken centre stage in our national life and the judiciary is not exempted. How do you explain cases that went thru unnecessary adjournments without conviction but got accelerated conviction outside Nigeria? I remember vividly the.case of Alamesiegha and Ibori that Nigerian courts could not convict but got convicted in the UK and both went to prison in UK for corruption committed as governors in Nigeria.

  • Nigeria is a study case on all fronts. The judiciary is not an exception, the constitution of this country is lopsided, the democracy is undemocratic, the law enforcers are ignorant of what to enforce, whoever is in power is the law and the constitution. He determines the judiciary and the justice, hence the judiciary is compromised. The common matn is on his own.
