Rise Of Atheism In Nigeria

Due to the fact that quite a number of men of God, especially in 2019, have been caught in one scandal or another, be it involving Scams and issues of infidelity, religion as a whole especially in Nigeria was dealt a huge blow. This started first with people questioning the preachers of the doctrines, and now there has been a rise in questioning the doctrines itself.

What is your stance on religion and do you see Nigeria becoming more religious or more secular in the years to come?

I personally see a decline in religiousity in Nigeria as most Nigerians these days are able to communicate with alot of people from diverse backgrounds with the aid of social media. This in turn has caused a shift in perspective in alot of us with issues not only on religion but on things like sexuality, women's rights, racism, xenophobia etc. What do you think though?

  • For me I don't think this things are new to any part of the world, because this acts existed before we were born and has been continuously moving on ,but I believe religious people are also increasing though they are less concerned on there religion, but for me im a Christian so as my family,

  • You don't have to wait till you see your preachers before u pray. You can pray right from the comfort of your home. So I don't see Nigeria having a decline in religious aspects I only see less people attending the place of worship who will rather worship with their families at home

  • Nigeria is not a peculiar nation when it comes to the issue of religion. Same way religion and preachers are being attacked by unbelievers all over the world. There are fake pastors in Nigeria and in all other countries. There are weak pastors everywhere, weak as not being able to control their desires in monetary or emotional. Jesus said; he who believes in my words and doesn’t waver shall inherit the kingdom of God.

  • We will be many!!!  That is one of the motto of hungry seekers of God! Those who have experienced God in a different dimensions are not influenced by whatever the ministers of God are doing and scandals, in fact that's the least of their concerns. Being religious is different from being a Christian, religious people might be turning to atheist and that's because they don't understand what they are practicing in the first place. As much as atheists are increasing those that are drunk in love with Jesus are even increasing by double,  so dont dull yourself o, and seek God, hunger and love on God, because he's the best lover you have and ever will have, better don't mind all these religious people don't let devil blind your eyes o. Love God!!!

  • Everyday prayer is all needed for this country to move forward. God bless Nigeria, God bless Nigeria, that's what we are always found of saying but never really mean our words in prophecy. Until we are able to sincerely put our nation into true prayer consideration then we are truly making it great_time#

  • Truly, Atheism is creeping into our nation. Now I believe it has advantages like the reduction of religious fanaticism and discrimination but also it can give rise to the corruption in which we are already trying to avoid drowning the nation. The best thing is for us to be more objective in our views and opinions and choose wisely what is best for us.

  • Nigeria is getting better instead of getting worse because the are no more cases of calling children witches by the religious people and other things so I'll say Nigeria is becoming religious

  • Someone once told me the church is becoming more worldly and the world more churchly. Some dressings and behaviours that are not accepted in some educational institutions are embraced by the church .i have seen Christians stop church because of the hypocrisy in the house of God. Many Christians have turned to only Sunday christians.ask yourself why

  • Nigeria is getting reasonable instead of getting worse because the are no more cases of  affirming children witches by the religious people and some things so I'll say Nigeria is becoming religious

  • In one of my write up last year I said

    religion as fail our country.

Imagine man of God prophecing fake prophecy,

Involving in different kind of rituals

    money scandal, and many atrocities.

However this clergymen are preaching to us.i wonder what they are portraits.

  • Why are Christians ignorant of the word of God? The Bible says that in the last days all these things which are happening now will happen and they are indeed happening (Matthew 24). The word of God is true the doctrines of men always has an expiration date of viability but the word of God is true and last forever. Christians have stopped reading the word of God that is why the are believing blasphemous remarks of men about the viability and authenticity of the word of God.

  • There has been a high rise in atheism in Nigeria, even most of our pastors are not helping matters, most of them engage in immoral acts and this tends to bring down Christianity in the country which Is  not good.

  • Even our pastors are not helping matters, most of their actions aren't even boosting religion in this country. I think we should all change and do what is right. We should always go to church and pray to God for a better tomorrow.

  • This issue is really serious because daily we hear news of fake pastors and the unimaginable things they tell their church members to do all in the name of getting a miracle and other things. Being a pastor in Nigeria has now been seen as a business plan rather than actually leading people in Christ (which should be the motive) but only God knows tomorrow. It’s even in the Bible about fake prophets coming in the end time, so this might just be one of the signs.

  • I do not think there is a decline in Christianity and rise to Atheism. I think alot of people are just tired of being manipulated by those religious leaders and wanted to put their faith in themselves. They want to know what is real and what it is not.

  • Honestly, by God's will religion would definitely become stronger in Nigeria, but logically speaking, a large percentage of people andr christians are caring less about Christianity these days. Another point is that people are becoming smarter and since religion is by Faith and not sight there tends to be a major drift away from the entire idea of Christianity... Well God help us

    - Idowu Fakomi - 2019-10-01 22:38:08 Quote

  • Major region always serves as setback especially with country with different religions, race and language but I don't see Nigeria because more religious in years to come because people are getting smarter and you do acquire that from being religious you acquire that by thinking critically about how to make it.
