The Problem Of Regulating Online Journalism

By - - [ Opinion ]

This problem is not far-fetched,it stares us in the face everyday. Almost every person has become an emergency journalist such that they don't need a CV to start the profession. As long as you can write and read and also you hay an information to pass across to the world, then you have no problem.

But, that is actually not bad because every person has the right to freedom of speech, expression and opinion. It is a fundamental human right that any citizen should not be deprived of. The only problem is that to practice journalism, one needs to know the ethics and many people don't know these ethics and by so doing practice unethical journalism even though they are doing well for themselves. If you are doing well at the expense of humanity then that is bad even for an online journalist.

Hence, regulations should be made to curb these unethical acts of individual on the online media. The only part of the journalism profession which is not regulated is the online journalism, which needs to be seriously looked into. It will separate the professionals from the unprofessional. Journalism is said to be one of the most bastardized profession on the planet but it is also the future of the world. It deals with content provision. Regulations, laws and enforcers of this laws should be made available to save the journalism profession.

You're absolutely right. Where there is no law there is no sin. There should be restriction to what any individual can post online. Also in every profession there is professional way of performing duty. I suggest there should be perhaps online study for those interested to avoid posting what will lead to problem.

It is no doubt that journalism is the modern tool to move the world forward but there should be criteria for calling a person a journalist. These days journalists don't make people believe in writing anymore. From fake news to poor composition coupled with bastardised English and a lot of sentiments embedded in news. Journalism needs reformation and refurbishing.

I totally agree with you, they are professional journalist who went to school and studied this course for years in school and should be respected for that and those persons should only be allowed to practice journalism because they know the norms, ethics and the right things to do in journalism, people feel going to school to study in the hope of becoming a journalist is a waste of time but in the world today almost everybody practise it both the unprofessionals it's not proper at all...just my thinking though

Online jornalism is actually something thats going to make the public more enlightened about whats going on around us being the fact that the masses are actually switching from the old ways of gaining knowledge to the internet . Sincerely i know alot of people who are into the jornalism friend who didnt go through the normal process of having the right to practice journalism but they are doing very well . I feel the opportunity that FRCN has given everybody who wants to practice journalism or anything related is really going to go a long way because its going to help the public to understand the ethics and rules of journalism.

As a 300l student of mass communication am speaking out of experience that online journalism does more harm than good. This online journalist are unethical and can do whatever to keep their blogs running or page bubbling. They tend to spread fake news as they do not analyse their news stories and get different sides of a story before posting. Before any professional journalist post a story he or she makes sure the story is based on not just the fact but truth too cause they can be sued for spreading fake stories but an online journalism don't get sued and they make it hard for the professional journalist and the audience member

Well nowadays people are journalist but not by profession since that's not what they studied in school, this situation can't just be stop because in each pressing day, news is always circulating, and well we have bloggers, most of this bloggers are journalist oriented, they just have that desire to do it,since it something they like, and what I have noticed is that online journalism does more harm than good if we actually know.
