For a while now almost every citizen in Nigeria is talking about the Closure of Nigerian borders by our President General Muhammadu buhari.
If we should take a look at the Economy of the Asian tigers in the likes of Hong Kong,Japan, etc.,we would see that this was the same approach they made while their economy was still strifing back then and when this approach was implemented by their government, it turned out to be successful and as at this present day, they are of the leading economies in the world.
Now, is this what our president is trying to achieve?. Since the closure of the borders, surviving has being hard for citizens who get their daily income from sales through the border thereby making most people who were hardworking turn to thief's by breaking into peoples shops, stores and houses. Our president closed the borders of our country and ordered us to go farming buy he didn't create another means from which the people who were gaining income from the borders and other unemployed youth will feed themselves and the family.
What do you have to say about this matter???
Seriously, this not how to do things, you want to shut the border and no option of what to use, seriously Buhari is not a leader at all, this not how a leader do, the Nigeria made rice is not up to standard,
My opinion on that is that what he did is so helping because here in Nigeria,we so much depend on imported goods and food products from other countries, even an ordinary pencil we cannot make here in Nigeria, even note books which are made with woods and timber...or don't we have enough tress in Nigeria to make enough and even export?.so my take on this is that let the border still be closed pending the time we think on how to improvise and make things work out in our own very Country.
The truth remains that before those Asian tigers were able to take such step, there were systems and industries already working. So, the policy only improved or should i say boosted them.
Now,in the case of Nigeria, there is no provision for facilities that have the capacity to satisfy the ever increasing needs of the masses.. Now that the border had been shutdown, life would become unbearably difficult and instead of improving the economy, its actually messing it up the more..
Well I'll say his idea is a good one but since he knew he wanted to shut our boards down he should have first created other means by which those who base their livelihood on trading will still be able to survive. Before shutting the boarders he should have made sure that our famers are well equppied and will be able to produce enough to carter for the country.
The closure of the boarders have is negative effects everything in Nigeria is being controlled anyhow, let the president visit the boader and see how people are submarge in suffering. At least now what we can't produce let it be imported
His motive is my concern actually, if he is planning to go through the method used by the Asian tigers, the I have no problem with it. All I'll just implore him to do is to create jobs for those whose means of livelihood was through the borders
The government will always say they will do this or do that, without thinking of consequences or providing alternative means to living by many people who depends on the opening of the boarder for their businesses to strive.
I just hope the government reconsiders its decisions and make it easier for both government and its people.
I think he's trying to make his country better it will be hard at first because people are used to bringing goods from oversea to sell here and if his planned worked out as planned we will all be happy let's just endure for now
For any country that wishes to close its boarder, appropriate measures must be taken. Provisions has to be made before closing the boarder. I think people should have been informed ahead before the closure of the boarder so they would be prepared.
I think his only been indifferent about the situation of the people. It is true the Asian tigers adopted same measure to boost their economy but they also made provisions for people who were getting money from working across borders. But as you can see reverse is the case in Nigeria as no adequate preparation and provisions were made and is really telling on those who make a living out of their work in this borders.
Why would he have to take such horrible step against Nigerian, he knows things isn't going fine with Nigeria and he doesn't think of the way forward ...
Am disappointed in Mr president, he is not a good leader at all.
Its not such a great idea, seeing that things in our country are not of great quality and still yet expensive!.
If only those things will be improved in quality and reduce to a price affordable by all..
Only then will it be a great idea..
All fingers are not equal like a popular adage goes, if it worked for the Chinese it may not work for us. My point is that he would have at least considered the fact that we are still coming up and that our economy is still dependent to a point.
Buhari is trying his best to help this country. He is trying everything possible. But Nigerians are expecting change to happen overnight and that's why they think he's not functioning. God blessed Nigeria with everything but we are not making good use of it. So, this is just a phase, it will all pass. Let's try and appreciate what we have in Nigeria
I think its wrong for him to close the borders, now exporters and I'm porters are left jobless without any other means of livelihood. But I believe all is well.. Everything will still turn out fine in this country as long as there is God.
Closings of the border it's not really a big deal that's if he really mean business. First of all I think he should create more employment opportunities and loan to the people who get there income through the border and he stop corruption.
Without any doubts closing the boarder will boost the economy of this country and take us to a greater height but the problem is the way he did it.
I believe he should like give sign or a speech that around so so time in the future that the boarder will be closed so that those making a living from it can plan a new way out.
To my mind I think to block the border is not the right thing because people have to make their own choice on how to make your life
Mostly people is traveling for flexing and for more experience, to lock the border is not the best issue and it will affect the communication and resources of the country.
Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari say di reason for di partial closing of Nigeria border with Benin Republic na sake of di massive smuggling activities, especially of rice, wey dey happun for dia.
Buhari give di reason during im tok-tok with di President of Benin Republic, Patrice Talon, during di Seventh Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD7), wey dey happun for Yokohama, Japan on Wednesday.
President Buhari, wey express great concern ova di smuggling of rice, say e dey threaten wetin e administration done achieve with dia agricultural policies.
According to am, "Now wey our people for di rural areas dem dey go back to dia farms, and di kontri don save money wey dem for spend to dey import rice with di kontri scarce foreign reserves, we no fit allow smuggling of di product on large scale like dat to continue."
Nigeria say dem no close Seme border wit Benin
Tins Nigeria must fix to enjoy AfCFTA
The Nigerian President say di limited closure of di kontri western border na to allow Nigeria security forces develop strategy on how to fight di smuggling.

Buhari add say im go soon call meeting with im colleagues dem from Benin and Niger Republics to decide correct policies to stop di kain smuggling wey dey happun for di border.
I think this is very bad and unfair.you should provide for people's needs before closing the burder.a real leader makes good examples for the up coming youth
That man we call a president doesn't have any feelings for the country or us... Nigeria's economic situation isn't that perfect no much money in people hands he is now closing border making things more difficult for us..
His so called decision is uncalled for because if he have to close the border he should have been sure that our products are enough to serve us all.
To me I think he is making a big mistake this is not the right time to lock the border.
For me, closing it is not the best option because ever since the close of that boarder, it makes things hectic for those whose daily income comes out through that place. Or had it been he closed it and opened or creat another employment opportunities for those it has affected, then no body would have reacted.
I don't think this is right at all.hiw could he close the burder without looking for a way to makes his people survive and live well
A leader should not just decide without thinking how to make his people happy, our president is not really in good action
Buhari's decision on the Nigerian borders is a very good one for the country based on the security challenges the country is facing. Now we hear less of the boko haram bombing the North because the is no way they could smuggle weapon into the country and then the Nigerian army can capture them. So it a good decision.
you cant say buhari has done wrong. Hes just trying to make Nigerians productive and make sure that the youths are not lazy. ofcourse everyone cannot have a white collar job so if hunger is killing you youll look for even if its a little trade to do to earn you money
This is just some wrong doings from the federal government, before they take on a plan that will affect the community there should be another plan that will benefit the community but instead the FG will go ahead doing things that will affect the community negatively. God will help us in Nigeria and we wont suffer
How will a president close a country's border without providing options like jobs and more production industries. Is every citizen expected to go back to farming or what. Before such decisions are to be made plans must have been put in place to create ease for the citizens
I feel there should have been a steady plan or framework to ease the effects of the closure of borders on Nigerians. Nigerians just woke up one morning to the news of the closure of the borders. I know his intentions are good, he is trying to reduce importation and help our local industries but it shouldn't be done overnight
Closing the borders is not the solution but being objective about it that will make this decision work. If he has plans to backup this decision which will benefit majority of the Nigerian citizens, then it will work.
From my own piloint of view I think our president is trying to copy other countries that have good economy but he should at least create a job for those that make there daily income from the border
From the time of his inception as the president, you would have seen that this man has no concrete plans to move Nigeria forward. Closing the borders of an import dependent nation without any alternate means of production, who does that?. It is really well with Nigeria
Now,in the case of Nigeria, there is no provision for facilities that have the capacity to satisfy the ever increasing needs of the masses.. Now that the border had been shutdown, life would become unbearably difficult.
Before the president would think of closing the border, he should have make enough provisions of what he wants for the citizens...... truly Nigerian love importing goods which has made our economy retrogress whenever there is inflation but still Mr President should profer a better solution instead of locking the border with no provisions
I think it’s actually a good approach judging from the fact that he studied the approach those other very economical countries took and wants to try their method; we can only hope and pray that the result turns out positive.
But I feel it’d have been better if he informed business owners like a month before time so they’d have prepared financially on how they’d survive as their source of income is being closed.
Nigeria says it has closed the border with Benin to prevent smuggling, but behind the move lies a history of political godfathering and economic malice.
There are many reasons why the Nigerian president has been so firm. Having launched into a protectionist programme, Buhari says his counterpart is not doing enough to stop the large-scale smuggling – especially of rice, which Nigeria also produces – between the two countries. But Buhari was also under pressure from the business community.
“A number of Nigerian business leaders have been complaining about Cotonou’s attitude. They claim their trucks going to Benin are overtaxed at the border,” says a Beninese businessman with links in Nigeria. “In addition, businessman Aliko Dangote, who bought the Nigerian government’s shares in the Lafarge group, wants to sell his cement in Benin, which Talon is prohibiting.”
“Our cement factories are already at over-capacity, and we are doing a lot to fight smuggling,” retorts one of Talon’s government colleagues. “How can a member of the ECOWAS group, which is governed by free movement, decide overnight and without consultation to close its border with its neighbour? It’s not acceptable!”
“Nigeria has always considered Benin as a country of fraudsters and nothing more. This created a feeling of omnipotence in Abuja,” says a member of Talon’s inner circle. “We want to change all that and have an equal relationship. There has to be mutual respect.”
The closure of the bother is a very wrong decision for Mr president to have decide on, the closure is really affecting the market and people are really starving and struggling to feed themselves, this has led to so many crimes, like robbery, hijacking people at corners, pick pocket, breaking shoes and warehouse just to get food to eat.
The decisions is worrisome and dangerous to the future of Nigerian and we hope everything works as plan. He shouldn't have order the closure of the border instead he should makes everything available first before doing that. Only God will intervene.
The decision our President made by closing the border is not a good decision because a lot of people will suffer as the price of everything that’s being imported before will be of high rate. And I think he did that because he doesn’t know or care about how poor people will live with it just because he is rich and the price of things won’t be a problem for him and his family.
