Why Should I Be Morally Upright?
The importance of Morality in our world today can not be overemphasised. This is evident in that we, as often as possible, raises questions on our moral actions, we ask ourselves, is this action good or bad? Should I do what is wrong even when I can get away with it or just do the right thing because of clear conscience? These are all dilemmas of morality.
I will therefore suggest a reasonable reason why I ought to be moral, at least, to some extent because I am of the belief that 100 percent morality is unattainable in our contemporary world. I am also in the school which believes that morality is a social activity, a form of corrosion that we voluntarily accept for the sake of humanity betterment. Thomas Hobbes said and I quote, "without morality life would be solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short".
Hence, for this reason, despite that I can do wrongs that serves my interests and get away with it, I ought to sacrifice my self interests that clashes with the norms of my society for the sake of a peaceful and orderly society.
In summary, I should be moral because morality is needed in our society to provide a frame work for achieving our collective goals and establishing a system to resolve social conflicts that appeals to share principles of justice.
