RØDE Unveils Firmware Upgrade For RØDECaster Video With NDI Support

The new firmware update to the RØDECaster Video brings NDI compatibility to the all-in-one video and audio production console.
RØDE
Australian AV brand RØDE has announced a major firmware upgrade for its RØDECaster Video all-in-one video and audio production console. The firmware upgrade brings some important and much-requested new features to the RØDECaster Video, which should make the device even more compelling for video producers.
The new firmware update will bring full NDI support to the RØDECaster Video at no additional cost to the users. NDI enables high-quality, low-latency video-over-IP streaming, which means the RØDECaster Video can now receive up to four NDI inputs and send one NDI output via Ethernet.
The addition of NDI makes it easy for video creators to connect cameras, smartphones and other NDI-compatible devices on the same network without the need for dedicated video cabling, creating a more streamlined solution to complex video productions.
NDI Support For RØDE’s Capture App
This latest update also extends NDI support to the RØDE Capture iOS app, enabling wireless integration of iPhones so they can be used as professional, multi-angle NDI sources. Dual Cam functionality also enables simultaneous streaming from both the front and rear cameras, either as separate feeds or in a combined view, which could be handy for interviews, commentary and dynamic location shoots.

The update also brings full PTZ camera control with pan, tilt and zoom for compatible NDI cameras. This will enable real-time shot framing and adjustments, plus scenes can be saved to presets for instant recall.
Other new features include Luma Key, a filter video based on brightness values that removes black backgrounds from input sources and is suitable for overlaying lower thirds, titles, logos and animations. A new Key Mask feature can precisely crop keying areas to remove unwanted edges, with softness and shadow controls bringing a cleaner and more professional chroma and luma keying.
New Overlay Function
In addition, the RØDECaster Video will have Input as an Overlay function, so any video input can be used as a downstream key, making it ideal for permanent picture-in-picture or persistent graphics. There will also be Auto Switching with RØDECaster Pro II and Duo to link specific audio channels to camera angles for automatic switching during productions.
Another highly requested feature was the provision of Rounded Corners, which are now available for all scene layers and overlays. Layer Stretch is an additional control for all scene layers and overlays to manipulate an input or graphic.
Finally, the firmware will add UI and Routing Enhancements, including new grey pre-mute meters and separate mixers for HDMI and NDI outputs.
