If you own a Galaxy S24 or S23, then Samsung has given you some bad news in recent days, with a critical missing update for your device. But that may be about to change, with confirmation that the update is now rolling out — get it when you can.
We’re talking One UI 8, of course, and Samsung’s on-again, off-again rollout that hit its latest of several snags this week. Multiple models had Android 16 upgrades puled mid-stream, with S23 owners the latest to be affected.
Per Android Police, “we saw Samsung pull the One UI 8 update for devices like the Galaxy S22, followed by the Galaxy S24, and other midrange Galaxy devices. It now appears that the Galaxy S23 series has also made it to this ever-growing list.”
The good news now, courtesy of SammyFans is that “Samsung has finally restarted the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24 series after a short pause.”
SamMobile also reports that this month’s critical security fixes are coming too. “It’s the first update for the 2024 flagship lineup following the release of One UI 8.0 and includes the October 2025 security patch.”
As ever, good and bad news comes first to South Korean Galaxy owners, then rolls out to other regions around the world. The clunky approach to upgrades and updates doesn’t look like changing anytime soon, and most users are well versed in this by now.
Android 16 is critical, bringing Google’s latest set of security and privacy updates, as well as many of Samsung’s own. As I’ve commented before, owners of $1500-plus flagships understandably expect to see their phones updated more quickly than this.
The latest Google Android 16 update coming first to Pixels (as ever) — before rolling out more widely — enhances live threat detection. New alerts warn when apps are abusing sensitive permissions — especially location tracking. All told Android 16 is critical..
Many Samsung S24 users upgraded to Android 16 before the One UI 8 upgrade was pulled, but the security update will still be new to most users. It should be installed as soon as it’s available for your model, region and carrier.
