These Key Upgrades Will Be Packed Into The Pixel 10 Pro Fold

August will see the next “Made By Google” event, where the Mountain View-based company is expected to launch the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The latter—as Google’s only foldable device—is in a unique place to promote innovation in the market and for Google to offer its viewpoint on what a good Android foldable should be.

Ahead of that launch, more details on 2025’s foldable Pixel are becoming clear. The latest notes come via Android Headlines. The core specs of 16 GB of RAM and either 256 GB or 512 GB of storage have been heavily trailed and are as expected. The camera specs include a 48-megapixel primary lens, a 10.6-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 10.8-megapixel x5 telephoto lens, which all make up the rear camera assembly.

The first is the Tensor G5 chipset. While not specifically visible to consumers, Google’s switch of the fabrication from Samsung to TSMC will be poured over with benchmarking comparisons, real-world testing, and comparisons not just to what came before but to the current Samsung Exynos, Qualcomm Snapdragon and Mediatek Dimensity options.

What will be noticeable to consumers is the impact of the increased battery capacity of the foldable Pixel. This year’s Fold will step up from the 9 Pro Fold’s 4,650 mAh to 5,015 mAh. Some of that will no doubt offset the brighter cover screen (with a potential ten percent increase in brightness to 3,000 nits), yet the efficiency improvements of the G5 should balance that out, leaving the extra capacity for increased endurance.

Then you have the protection rating. Last year, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold shipped with IPX8 protection—water-resistant but not waterproof, with no protection against dust.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold will be upgraded to IP68. This is relatively standard across premium handsets, but it’s only now showing up on foldables. IP68 offers the same water resistance while adding protection from dust and other small particles.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold Competition

Google’s foldable Pixel is not launching into an empty space. The two key points of comparison will be the recently launched Galaxy Z Fold7 from Samsung and the Magic V from Honor. The former is focusing on the general consumer audience as Samsung’s marketing leans into the benefits of AI, while Honor positions the latter as a more fashionable and cutting-edge design due to its slim nature.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold fits into the space as a reference design, both in terms of hardware and software. While the Pixel range has leaned more into consumer retail over the last few models, Pixels are still seen as clean implementations of Google’s Android vision.

As foldables move away from the luxury space and become more prevalent in the real world, their role becomes increasingly important, as Google aims to set the tone for a space that has been under development for more than a decade.
