The NYT Mini is a quick and dirty version of the newspaper’s larger and long-running crossword. Most days, there are between three and five clues in each direction on a five by five grid, but the puzzles are sometimes larger, especially on Saturdays.

Unlike its larger sibling, the NYT Mini crossword is free to play on the New York Times website or NYT Games app. However, you’ll need an NYT Games subscription to access previous puzzles in the archives.

It took me 1:05 to complete today’s NYT Mini.

I struggled a bit with this one. I thought PUB was actually “bar” and spent far too long trying to figure out 4 Across, for instance if it should be “LAX”. That’s because the host of the Olympic Games is usually denoted as a city, not a country.

There was no chance I was getting CLUBS since I was thinking of a black suit in terms of clothing rather than playing cards. I knew PSAKI, but I spelled it wrong, as “Paski.” Oops. However, my first pass of the Across clues wasn’t a total wash as I had RELAX.

That was enough to help me start realizing my errors when I started rattling through the Down answers. Most of those were straightforward enough, but I’m not sure too many people know that Tiger Woods got his first hole-in-one as a six-year-old. Is that factoid that famous?
