The NYT Mini is a quick version of the newspaper’s larger, long-running crossword. Most days, there are between three and five clues in each direction on a five by five Mini grid, but the puzzles are sometimes larger, especially on Saturdays.

Unlike its larger sibling, the NYT Mini crossword is free to play on the New York Times website or NYT Games app. However, you’ll need an NYT Games subscription to access previous puzzles in the archives.

It took me 2:11 to complete today’s NYT Mini.

A very slow time for this one, but can you blame me? In hindsight, it was a fun gimmick with the reverse words but in the moment I hated it.

I managed to get ALL and RIOT, which helped me figure out ARE and LINK. It took a while for THUS to click, and the same went for PDA. I didn’t know LOONS, but for the life of me I couldn’t figure out the remaining letters. Finally, a closer look at “ass-backwards” revealed all. I’m mad, but I respect it.
