This Mazinkaiser toy doesn’t hold back on its gimmicks.
Dynamic Planning, Ember Toys
The classic super robot Mazinkaiser is getting a new chogokin figure from Ember Toys, and it has all the gimmicks you would ever want.
To back up a bit, Mazinkaiser started out life as an upgrade to the regular Mazinger Z in the Super Robot Wars games. Due to its popularity, an OVA series and anime movie were made, cementing it as a definitive super robot within the mecha genre.
More recently, Mazinkaiser was featured in Super Robot Wars Y, and naturally, over the years, it has had numerous toy releases.
For instance, back in 2016, I reviewed Sentinel’s Riobot toy of Mazinkaiser, and that was a superbly made and very stylized figure.
However, this new toy from Ember Toys is different, though. Firstly, it’s much closer to the anime design than prior versions. This should come as no surprise, as Alan Moriguchi is responsible for the design and sculpt of the toy. Secondly, it’s full of gimmicks.
The major party piece is the actual motorized and spinning Turbo Smasher Punch for both arms. This reminds me of the Aoshima’s chogokin release that had wind-up arms to achieve a similar effect, although this version is far more aggressive and seemingly motorized.
The other two major gimmicks are the light-up chest piece for the Breast Burn attack and the changing central mark in the center of the chest.
To be honest, just based on the quality of the sculpt and detailing, this would be a must-buy for me, but the gimmicks are really quite impressive.
Pre-orders will start around the end of this year, for release around Q2 next year. The price point is also expected to be around $200, which is surprisingly affordable for a chogokin this large and feature-rich.
