Caught Stealing, starring Austin Butler, Regina King and Zoë Kravitz, is new in theaters. How soon will it be before the film comes to streaming?
Directed by Darren Aronofsky, Caught Stealing opened in theaters on Friday. The official summary of the film reads, “Hank Thompson (Austin Butler) was a high-school baseball phenom who can’t play anymore, but everything else is going okay. He’s got a great girl (Zoë Kravitz), tends bar at a New York dive, and his favorite team is making an underdog run at the pennant.
“When his punk-rock neighbor Russ (Matt Smith) asks him to take care of his cat for a few days, Hank suddenly finds himself caught in the middle of a motley crew of threatening gangsters. They all want a piece of him; the problem is, he has no idea why. As Hank attempts to evade their ever-tightening grip, he’s got to use all his hustle to stay alive long enough to find out …”
Rated R, Caught Stealing also stars Liev Schreiber, Vincent D’Onofrio, Benito Martínez Ocasio (aka Bad Bunny), Griffin Dunne and Carol Kane.

When Caught Stealing comes to the home entertainment market, its first stop will be on digital streaming via premium video on demand. Caught Stealing’s studio, Sony Pictures Entertainment, typically waits for one month to six weeks after its films open in theaters before they arrive on PVOD.
For example, Sony’s horror hit Until Dawn opened in theaters on April 25 and debuted on PVOD just shy of a month later, on May 23. Sony’s action hit Karate Kid: Legends, which opened in theaters on May 30, took a bit longer to reach PVOD. The film debuted on digital streaming on July 8, just over five weeks after its theatrical release.
More recently, the studio’s horror hit 28 Years Later opened in theaters on June 20 and debuted on streaming just over five weeks later, on July 29.
Should Caught Stealing follow the same pattern as the titles listed above, it should arrive on PVOD anytime between Sept. 30 and Oct. 14, since new titles on digital streaming typically arrive on Tuesdays.
Which Streaming Service Will Get ‘Caught Stealing’ First?
Since Sony Pictures Entertainment has an arrangement with Netflix to play on streaming video on demand first, Caught Stealing will make its SVOD debut on the streaming platform.
Typically, it takes Sony’s films about three months from the time they open in theaters to their debuts on Netflix.
For example, Sony’s horror thriller Heart Eyes opened in theaters on Feb. 7 and began streaming on Netflix just over three months later on May 8.
More recently, the studio’s horror thriller Until Dawn arrived on Netflix on July 24, just shy of three months after the film opened in theaters on April 25.
Should Caught Stealing follow the same release pattern, sometime around Nov. 27, since new Sony film releases tend to debut on Netflix on Thursdays.
