Wyze’s New Battery Video Doorbell Cuts The Cord

Wyze has announced the latest entry to its video doorbell lineup: the Wyze Battery Video Doorbell is available now for $65.98, and offers the same wide, head-to-toe view as its wired siblings but with the flexibility of a rechargeable battery that lasts up to six months between charges.

At first glance, it looks a lot like the Video Doorbell v2 that arrived in 2023, but the obvious difference is around the back where a battery is found, so there’s no need for existing doorbell wiring to be in place.

You can still hardwire it if you prefer continuous power and features like 24/7 local recording, but for most users, the drop-and-go setup will be the big draw.

The camera itself records at 1536 x 1536 HD+, using a square 1:1 aspect ratio that captures a 150-degree view both vertically and horizontally, which the budget smart home specialist claims is wide enough to see the full length of your visitor, or that Amazon box resting right up against the door.

It’s slightly lower resolution than the v2’s 2048 x 1536, but the broader field of view should make up for that.

Wyze’s promise of up to six months of battery life will, of course, depend on how busy your front door gets.

Still, not having to plug in or rewire anything is a win for renters or anyone who wants a cleaner install. As with most of Wyze’s cameras, you can store clips locally using a microSD card (up to 256GB) or opt for Wyze’s Cam Plus subscription, which adds AI-powered person and package detection plus cloud backups.

Continuous local recording is possible too, but only if you’ve got the doorbell wired in for steady power.

There’s also two-way talk, auto-response voice messages like “Leave the package at the door,” and a motion-activated voice deterrent that warns visitors they’re being recorded. The doorbell is IP65-rated, so it’s fine to mount on an exposed doorway, and it plays nicely with Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT for easy smart home integration.

The Wyze Battery Video Doorbell works with your existing doorbell chime or can be paired with the Wyze Universal Wi-Fi Chime (sold separately) to ensure you hear alerts anywhere. You can even route chimes through your Wyze Cams.

It can also be paired with the Wyze Lock and Wyze Palm Lock for smart unlocking automations.

It’s been a busy few months for Wyze, with the Cam Pan v4 going live alongside the new Duo Cam Pan in August, and the Solar Cam Pan being announced earlier this week too.
